Re: Negril-The Relaxation Trip
Sista Shug....just wanted to let you know I'm enjoyin' every part of the ride....
this is the most valuable lesson being taught....the children must learn that their lives, their very existence, are of great value and a gift from The Creator that must not be squandered....I also wanted her to see the dignity in the room.
I have to admit, tho...this young man looks completely baffled by the "football" you gave him!!! I hope you taught him how to throw it!!!! lol!!
Shug...we're leavin' for the airport in about 36 hours.....am I gonna have to save the rest of the report 'til we return on the 13th??
Peace!DD

Re: Negril-The Relaxation Trip
man, let me tell you, the only time my mom ever slapped me was when i told her I wished our family had never left their homes to come to America.
she hauled off, and said you have no idea what it is like to have dirt for your floor, no windows you can close, your belly is full. then she started crying and told me never to say such things again. it wasn't the slap so much, but the manner of her expression and voice.
now of course I do know what those things are like and I understand the sacrifices my elders made for me so I could have my life and know it from both ends- for they gained, yet they lost...and I have a choice, even though those things don't hold much sway to me, it is my choice to take them or leave them.
and I guess that is life.
great report shug...
I always wonder what those girls who shake that stuff on tv, what would happen if their dads or moms saw them. I mean it's one thing in the embrace of the dancefloor but right out like that...not much would happen I gather, as evidenced by the ice cream festival but damned if i'd let my daughter out of the house like that much like dance that way.

Re: Negril-The Relaxation Trip
shug i've enjoyed reading every bit of your trip report. little miss is adorable i might add.
i must confess that i am a bit jealous that you got to visit a school. i am a teacher and i've always wanted to check out the education system there. i would love to sit and chat with a jamaican teacher and interact with students.
how did you arrange that?
