If you live in a cool clime here in the US, this always happens to me when I return from the Caribbean. I got pneumonia in 85 as well. Hope you get better soon and return with your report. Marilyn, Believe me, if I could have gotten up and started typing I would have been right on it! I was so bored just laying in bed for a week! Tried to get hubby to bring computer into the bedroom but he wouldn't go for it. lol I'll have to invest in a laptop! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Day 4 - Monday

I actually slept in this morning! Didn’t get up until 6:30! Lol Again, I find myself sitting on the balcony daydreaming and writing in my journal. This morning is a bit overcast, but still hot! And, it is very quiet, even the birds haven’t started their morning serenades yet. Aaah I love the sound of silence.

My quiet reflection is broken by the boom, boom from the bass of an approaching car. By now, I know what is next. Yep - meep, meep, meep, meep all the way down the road. I can’t describe the car horns here as a beep, because they just sound too tonka toyish! Lol They remind me of The Road Runner, with his meep, meeps! Lol Yesterday I even heard a “meep” come from a dump truck! Lol I guess I am too used to the deep growl of most car horns in America lol I don’t mean to go on about car horns. But, it doesn’t take much to amuse me and these little squeaks just make me think of a child who can’t wait for his voice to change and be more like dads. So he tries and tries to sound more “manly”, which only makes his voice squeak even more! Lol I know, I have a warped sense of humor! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

We get to breakfast and the rest of our group is already there. The guys say they have decided to go out on a charter boat this morning and see what kind of big fish can be caught around Jamaica. They are talking fishing and we (the girls) are talking about shopping. I notice Maureen isn’t saying much and ask her if something is wrong. She tells me that Mark, her hubby, kept her up most of the night trying to convince her not to go shopping with us this morning. She told him that she was going and he wasn’t going to change her mind. I have heard of being overprotective but this takes the cake. We leave the guys to their fish stories and head to the lobby area to search for a cab. Of course we are told that we should use a taxi from the hotel and that it only costs $20.00 to the roundabout. Whoa! You’ve got to be kidding me! They want $20 when I can walk 20 yards to the road and only pay a couple bucks for a route taxi. The guy at the taxi desk calls me over closer to him and softly said, “you’re right it is cheaper, I didn’t know you had been here before.” I told him that it actually was my first visit but I learned a lot from the internet message boards. We talked for a few minutes about all the information that can be obtained over the internet. He said that he would keep an eye on us to make sure we got a good driver, so we walked out to the road and within seconds a taxi pulled over. I glanced up toward the lobby and true to his word, the taxi desk guy (wish I had gotten his name) was giving some hand signals to the guy at the security gate. The security guy bent over to check out the taxi driver and exchange some words with him (of course I hadn’t a clue as to what they said! I hoped it was good!) He straightened up and gave the taxi desk guy a thumbs up, opened the door and we hopped in and headed for town. Our driver was an older man with the sweetest smile. I am terrible with names and of course I forget his. He pointed out some of the places we might want to visit and told us to look for him when we were ready to head back home.

We spent the entire afternoon just wandering around the town and checking everything out. The craft market by the roundabout was amazing! There were so many vibrant colors everywhere, and the vendors all calling just a bit louder than the one next to them, trying to catch your attention. I was starting to get a bit overwhelmed and just about ready to turn tail and run when all the boardie advice on how to deal with this came back to me. Ok, I finally relaxed and now I’m in the groove. I put my shyness away and just start talking to the vendors and really listen to what they are saying. I know they are only trying to make a sale but you can definitely get an ego boost when you stop and listen. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] lol I have learned how to haggle and actually enjoyed it! I wish I could say that I had it mastered but Maureen topped me easily. She was a natural! I can’t wait to get back and tell Mark! Gotta’ rub it in a little! Lol We spent a couple hours at the craft market, and got most of our souveneirs purchased.

We wandered up to the Yacht Club to grab a drink and see if we could meet the Famous Pirate! Lol But alas, he was not there. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Next we headed over to Sunshine Plaza then on to Coral Seas Plaza. I was so glad that we stopped at the craft market and did our shopping first because some of the rudest people I had ever met ran a lot of the shops at the plazas. The Jamaicans that were working at the shops were really nice, but the foreign owners(I think they were the owners) were the problem. One guy, with all his fast talking, would have cheated me out of almost $30.00 if I hadn’t been paying close attention. I let him know what I thought of his “deals” and headed for the door.Walking around town was one of the highlights of my trip. It seemed everything moved at high-speed in a kind of controlled chaos.

We decided that we want to walk up the beach until we were tired, then catch a taxi from there. So, we walked down the road to Coral Seas and cut through there to get to the beach. My poor little brain was so overloaded with everything I have seen today that I have ended up forgetting almost every place that we stopped at along our beach trek. Dang, wish I had photographic memory! Lol Honestly, we didn’t get very far before we were slipping back out to the road to catch a cab. Shopping can sure wear you out. We got back only a few minutes before the guys and the first thing I noticed was that it was only John and Shane getting out of the car. “Where is Mark?” I asked. John tells us that Mark decided he didn’t want to go fishing because there was a good movie coming on tv. I practically screamed, “What! you’ve got to be kidding me!”. I can’t believe someone would rather watch a movie than get out and see the sights! Oh well, to each his own I guess. Lol We all headed our separate ways to get showered and meet for dinner. Oh yeah, John and Shane only caught 1 fish ! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Dinner was pretty quiet tonight as we were all exhausted from our busy day. After dinner John and I decided to take a walk along the beach. We had only gone a short distance when it started to rain softly. It was a gentle, warm rain so we continued our walk toward the new Riu down the beach. Finally we said what the heck we’re already soaked and we headed into the near blackness of the night sea.

After a couple of rumbles of thunder we called it a night and headed for our room.
