OHHHHH IM...longing to be there now.. these photos are almost surreal.. really feels like im looking at old photos.. actually enjoying them more than the current ones..... but more so the journey.... i hope youll get back there soon .. to this place

Nina I just wish the photos could scan as clear and beautiful as they are on hard copy. There's one coming up that I absolutly love, but we'll see how it scans...

Speaking of the river, remember the canoes from the earlier pictures of the yard? We did get that guided trip up the river. I had hoped to take the one of the canoes alone and paddle it up the river myself for the adventure of it, and I’ve spent a good share of time in a canoe, but Penny and Bongo wouldn’t hear of it and they really wanted to take us, so who was I to argue with that? It was a great adventure!

Our hosts were Penny and Bongo...












The trees that dotted the river banks were thick with Egrets that would flee over the alarm of the arrival of our mini floatilla...







And this last canoe photo is my favorite. The river was pretty narrow from here on, so there was little desire to keep going. I've done my share of portaging at home and besides, I didn't have a desire to get stuck in some narrow confines and have some big toothed crocadile looking me in the eys...



After a brief rest from all this paddling we'll have to take a walk to downtown Alligator Pond and see what's happening there. There was some big excitement, yet to be unveiled.

The other thing that was causing excitement in Alligator Pond at the time was the very first public pay telephone had been recently installed in front of the Police Station. It seemed people gathered around just to look at it and sure enough, it got us off our butts one evening. After I had my lovingly prepared by Ogo, Brownstew Chicken, we strolled the beach towards Little Ochie where the fish eaters would dine but first we took a stroll down the town main road to the Police Station to view the first telephone, camera in hand. There it was, in all it’s glory. We stopped and visited at little shops along the way, as by this time everyone knew Peggy & Roger and that they were here and that they had brought some newbies and Peggy’s two breathtakingly beautiful daughters who were immensely popular with would be young male suitors. They had both been there before so everyone was excited to see them again and it was quite funny to watch. While I was struggling with my decision whether to cross over the rickety bridge or wade across the river that first night, our girls were being pampered with the finest in chivalry, they were being picked up and carried across….

To get to downtown Alligator Pond from the Sea Riv, it's best to walk the beach to Little Ochie.....

( this one's for you Nina, I named it "Walk To Town" heheheh...







This is the main road in Alligator Pond and will take you to Spur Tree Hill. We're walking towards the police station where we found lot's of people hanging out over the excitement of the phone.







I believe the name of the restaurant in the photo below was Ann's. Anne was one of Peggy's friends and the only other place in Alligator Pond besides the Sea Riv that I was able to find something on the menu other than fish. I had some good chicken there...

After hanging out at the police station and meeting the small crowd and taking pictures of the famed phone, the fish eaters were getting hungry so we head back to Little Ochie Pub where they could have thier lobster 6 different ways (as the menu was written on the whiteboard insde the restaurant)...



Going in this direction, the road runs out at the sea. The town square is just to the right of the top of the road in the photo below, and is where we spent an exciting night listening to some wicked tunes coming from one of those huge sets of speakers, sitting on a grassy knoll that stretched across the yard perimeter.




Before you get to the sea though, you make a right down the lane towards the beach and Little Ochie. There's a boat on the side of the road as a landmark...

Hey Scarlet, here I am, ready to resume my journey! I like that photo of main road too, and the sunset sure was a nice surprise when I opened the packet of photos! I don't know about anyone else, but when I'd pick up my photos I'd always walk out of the store opening them and looking at a few on the way to the car and the rest of them I'd have to look at before I'd even move from my parking space. It was a wonder I never got hit by a car, seeing as I wasn't watching where I was going while wandering and looking at pictures! Usually I'd have 10 rolls or so, and double prints, so my photos ended u being a royal mess and I'm no different now but instead it's my hard drive that's such a mess because of it!

OK, I thought we'd take a mid morning stroll up the beach and see what the fishermen are up to...

I can, it was the day of our arrival and we were somewhere between Allen Bamboo Avenue and Spur Tree Hill at this very moment back then and I was learning new words like IRIE...
