I have to try the Google video upload tonight. It looks like Google allows a lot more memory to be stored so it won't try and reformat my videos like the other sites. Once that is done, I can add to the report. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

While I am waiting to upload the video. I should probably add to the report so that those of you sitting on concrete blocks can give your bums a rest! Also, Don't look for Red anytime soon. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] He is at home today sick and not getting out of bed until at least noon!

Christmas Day-- Sunday Continued...

I hear the whistle blow and I know the walkers aren't far off. I am very excited for them this year b/c I know I am ready for 'em! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] The last time we were in Jamaica and the Christmas Walkers came around I was battling Bronchitis and not much in the mood for meeting 50 people at once. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] This time I WAS READY! I had my camera out and poised, ready to being gathering evidence of the drunken state of many St. Bessians. The walkers are so much fun! They start walking as early as 9 a.m. and go all day, stopping at every house in the neighborhood for a drink and to spread some holiday cheer. Red's grandfather was prepared for them, he had beer and rum at the ready. I couldn't wait

One of my favorite walkers in one of Red's uncles. He is VERY dramatic and cracks me up. Every single time he sees me, he gets down on one knee, kisses my hand, and calls me by what I believe should be my birth name, Queen. I adore him, he always puts on a show. I haven't had a chance to see him this trip and I am looking forward to it. It is about 2 p.m. and the whistle is getting louder and louder. We are sitting on the verandah having a nice quiet conversation. Red's grandfather then walks us around his entire property showing us all of the damage (and repairs) from Hurricane Ivan. He sure did get hit hard. He amazes me with his strong will and strength. He is a man in his 70's but he is walking around the yard like a teenager and is very knowledgeable about his property and all of the plants on it. We are walking and talking and next thing I know, the whistle is out front! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img]

Less than 20 seconds later we are FLOODED with people. This year there is easily 4 times as many people as the year before. I am right in the mix, taking pictures and filming the entire thing.




The one in the plaid shirt is the Uncle I adore!


There were so many people, half of them were on the street, unable to get to the house for a drink!

The walkers aren't there for more than 20 minutes before the whistle blows and they are off again. I wonder how the whistle blower gets that job? Is it an honor or a pain in the rear? Do you have to maintain some level of sobriety in order to hold that position? Does the whistle blower stay the whistle blower the entire time, or is it the job revolving the entire time of the walk? Is the whistle blower the same every year? I noticed a lot of the same faces from previous years, perhaps the whistle blower is a job you hold until death. I decide I will take note of the whistle blower next year, to see if it is the same person. Better yet! I decide to go walking next year. No better way to answer my questions than to join the crew on their outing. I tell Red of my plans, he says I am crazy, but his Uncle says he can't wait until next year when I join them. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] I can't wait either!!

I had a great time with them. The conversation is always lively and fun. There are always those who are too drunk to talk, and are barely walking, even they are fun. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I don't know, Red thinks I am crazy to get so excited over it. I can't explain why I do, it is just like a moving party that you get to be a part for awhile. The energy is great and the vibe is nice. What more could you want?

I still have my camera out even though the walkers are gone. I manage to snap this shot from the street:

I didn't know exactly what this "Christmas walker" thing was until this part of the story. I love it!! What a great idea, a walking party. I think I'd go with them next year too.
