With the first half of the wedding done, the photographer rounds us up for photographs. At this point I'm just relieved that the sweating has abated and I didn't screw things up! There's a bit of static going on, but I haven't quite figured it out yet. It seems the daughters sparred with Momma Napi just before the wedding started and so Lil' sis is being very quiet, while Momma Napi has that ungrateful pickney look that you sometimes see in old school Jamaicans. To their credit though, at no point did any static spill over into the ceremony or the reception and all were genuinely happy as the big day continues...

My mom seemed to be looking somewhere else in every pic!

So let me tell y’all the quick story on the rings…Napi and I decide to wait until the last minute to go look for our wedding bands. I’m thinking the hard part is finding her band and all I have to do is show up and find something that’s not sparkling like a flashlight (the kid doesn’t do bling!) and that should be a 1 hour event tops! We go to the store where I purchased Napi’s engagement ring, and the lady who had previously been of immense assistance to me, seems preoccupied with cleaning up litter outside the store…So after waiting around there for a bit, I grab Napi and we get the heck out of there. There’s a mall close-by, so we head there to see what the jewelry stores have. Napi had previously spotted some insert rings at a jewelry store and had fallen in love with them. I thought they looked ok, but overall wasn’t as impressed with them as she was.

We look at a few of those, and none of them seem to fit right. Meanwhile we are coming up blank with my ring. It seems the stores carry up to maybe size 10, and anything over that has to be ordered. I’m a size 12.5… Eventually we find a ring that is both tasteful and elegant and looks as though it were made to accompany bling number 1 and we go with it. We leave the mall that day and decide to consider further options for my ring. Fast forward to the Saturday before our departure to Jamaica, and we are back at the same mall looking at a tungsten ring that I really like. Not too flashy, decent width, it’s got Soul written all over it. One problem – 4 weeks for the order to go through. In the end we decide to order that ring when we return, and circled the mall looking for one of those ring kiosks. For about $20, my temporary bling is secured!
