Foreword
I have not done a trip report in quite some time. There are many reasons for it. Perhaps the main reason (other than lack of time) is that unless I'm showing the country to someone, it is difficult and in my opinion not as entertaining to the reader, if I'm writing just about meeting friends and taking it easy. Which is the content of the majority of my trips. Besides, I think one good trip report is better than 5 bad ones. I hope this one belongs to the first group.
Part 1 - Introduction.
After hours of tweaking my work schedule, I finally figured out how to stretch my one week's vacation from work, into two. Perfect! Two full weeks in Jamaica. Then my best friend asked a favor of me that required me to set aside three of those days for a quick trip to Tokyo. Arhhh! But that's what friends are for, right? This also meant that once I've returned from Japan, I had but one evening to repack and regroup, and leave for JA early the next morning.
On this trip I would also bring my girlfriend Latoya. Two years ago I promised to take her and show her my beloved country, and finally our schedules matched. She was born and grew up in Kingston and Portmore, but left for New York at the age of 12. In the 17 years that have since passed, she returned back only briefly for a funeral. So this trip was important not only to me, but to her as well. There is something special in showing something new to another person, and then rediscovering it and seeing it through that persons eyes. I couldn't wait to show L. my/her OUR Jamaica!
