In the midst of cleanup now.

What to Bring
Here's a list which is a combination of the company's list and my experiece on the mountain:

-Flashlight, a good one at that, with spare batteries.
-hat
-2 T-shirts
-sweater
-rain gear
-shorts (for lower altitudes)
-jeans or other long pants (for higher altitudes)
-thick socks
-tracks shoes with ankle support and good traction
-2 liters of water, Gatorade, Powerade, or other liquid in an easy to drink bottle
-powerbars
-mangoes
-small aluminium pot (for use over a fire)
-tea with sweet condensed milk
-soup or other instant hot meal
-sleeping bag, or a blanket and a pillow
-toiletries
-camera and binoculars
-a comfortable backback to carry it all in
-a cell phone (preferably Digicel, as C&W does not cover the whole mountain)
-signal flares (L.'s idea [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] )

-I also recommend excercising for at least 2 weeks prior to the hike if you're not in shape

Part 20 - Port Royal"

When by the evening we have finally rested enough after the mountain climb, we've decided to meet my friends for dinner at Gloria's in Port Royal. I love that place! No visit to Kingston is complete without a fry fish dinner in the old Privateer's Capital. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

A tropical wave provided steady evening rain and there was a concern that the Palisadoes Road may be flooded, but as it turned out it was passable. I was shocked by the size of the mounds of dirt and rock along the road provided courtesy of Hurricane Ivan. Thousands of tons of sediment now lined the shoulder deposited by the storm surge, and effectively cutting off the airport and Port Royal from mainland right after the storm.

Dinner was delicious as always, and even better when spent in the company of friends. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] With belly full sleep came over us again, and we headed home. In the morning, after a quick visit to L.s grandfather who works at the airport, we headed out of town, bound for Ochi. The rain was finally letting up.

Part 21 - The Harder They Come

We managed to avoid the rush-hour traffic with the skillful advice from Aunt Jennifer, and a stop in Spanish Town for breakfast. Climbing Mt. Diablo I coundn't help but remember a scenes from "The Harder They Come" (the book, not the movie). First a bus comes tumbling down the road at an incredible speed, surely driven by the Coolie driver that brought Rhygin to Town for the first time. Then a scene comes to mind when Rhygin goes back to his district after "making it" in Town. He is confused by the red scars that the advent of bauxite has left on his valley in his absence. The road is lined with countless ripe mangoes.


Mangoes line the road that climbs mount Diablo.


And the air is filled with L's screams as large trucks blow by us at dizzying speeds. We enter the lush hillsides of teh Garden Parish and soon approach the Fern Gully. The thick canopy of the Gully provided shade for the final descent into Ochi.
