Part 3 - Negrilbound.

After promising to get a new passport soon, we breezed through customs and got a car from Island Car Rental. They are getting a lot better now since it takes just a few minutes to do all the paperwork and roll. Before we pushed out, we had to visit a friend of mine who works in the Sangster air traffic control tower. He was working that day, so we came up the stairs into the cab. Out Northwest flight was getting ready to go back to Memphis and I got a chance to give them clearance on the radio. L. Got to learn all about airplanes and controlling them. Of course we aviation folks can chat all day long, so after a few hours L. Hinted it’s time to hit the road, and on to Negril.

The drive is pleasant and quick with the new road, but of course all the charm of the old road is gone. I had to paint the picture to L. How nice it was with all the hills, twists, turns, and drops. Meanwhile L. Is snapping pictures left and right and for a moment I thought I’m back in Japan. We stopped in Hopewell for a patty and a box juice and soon we passed the “Welcome to Negril” sign that emerged from around the corner.



The radar used to keep airplanes from running into each other.



Data about each flight is recorded on a flight strip. Blue for arrivals, beige for departures.

Wind indicator, charts, and other equipment.



Air Jamaica A320 just pushed back in front of the tower.



Magic pretending to be an air traffic controller. Can you see the lack of sleep in my eyes!
