I have not been able to get through to Jamaica since yesterday. I'm only getting a fast beeping tone for every number that I've dialled. My uncle in Portland lives on a hill outside of Shrewsbury, his area is prone with landslide. My aunt and her husband who lives directly in Shrewbury are likely to be affected by the landslide and the river overflowing. I have cousins in Saint Margaret's Bay...they're right on the sea. Not to mention our friends who live right on the edge sea out at St.John's Point in Westmoreland...they were completely washed out by surges during Ivan. it's the radio station that said Dean had arrived - in the sense that the rains from it have started in Jamaica. The eye of the storm hasn't reached yet.

the television weather here in Canada recently said (about 15 hr ago) the eye is just about 100KM away.

so, if the eyewall scrape di coast, wat dat mean in terms of impact. From what mi understand from the Canadian weather television, because of where Jamaica is located, the storm will get worse before it get better...

Kingston Hatbour cannot have 30 foot waves,because it is an enclosed harbour. Palisadoes can,but not kingston harbour. Unless the sea breace the ithsmus and bring the fetch of waves in. Otherwise it will have probably 10 foot waves at most.

I am in Mobay and the winds are picking up it is getting darker and the sea is getting real rough. Think the power will soon go...

The eye is actually just south of kingston at this time and about 50 miles off shore, according to the NOAA sattelite loop. .
