It's path seem to be a close replication of Ivan. Ivan was about 30 miles offshore with Portland Point being the closest to it' seem like the same senario all over again. I hope theose people who lost their homes down in that area, due to Ivan, are secured at this time.

You know our people. Some one will start a story about because the PM refuse to change ciurse,Dean had to. something have to give, and they say wind always find a course around an obstacle that it can't move.
It look like she is going to be a hard one to move,if even dean gave to change course because she refuse to.

They still have an election to win. Now all the aid that will be coming to Jamaica will be in the control of the PNP so naturally they are going to have more support than the Labourites so they have to keep whatever voters they have before they flip on them.

Mighty windy and hurricane force winds are two different things. remember that the hurricane is over 150 miles wide and Jamaica is only 50 miles at it's widest. that means even iof the eye is 50 miles offshore, all of the island will still feel huricane strength winds of at least 100 mph.

Ivan vs. Dean...

The paths are close but Ivan was on a weakening trend when it went by while Dean looks to be holding steady or maybe strengthening, judging by the satellite images. Also the wind fields in the outer eyewall look to be stronger with Dean than Ivan so the wind and waves could be worse around the south coast this time. North coast shouldn't get much, just like with Ivan. South coast will be as bad maybe somewhat worse.

Pedro Cays will again be getting pounded, with salt spray blasted into every crevice by 150+ mph winds. Underground is the only place to be there in the next 4 hours.

Earlier today I heard a statement from Portia that was about 10 minutes long at least, and went into a whole lot of info about where to get help, looking out for your neighbour, staying strong in faith, the Jamaican spirit, etc, and in which she said she also "initiated" a discussion with the JLP and asked them to put aside political differences to work together for the people in this terrible emergency.

Ever since then mi a hear Power106 play the "paid announcement" from the JLP, in which they repeat Portia's 20 mins of key messages in about 30 seconds.

So, Portia is playing politics by taking credit for stepping over the partisan line to invite the JLP into a common goal. Golding is also playing politics by besting Portia's one time free airtime shot PLUS controlling the number of times he's heard by buying the airtime to also deliver his unity message. I think his strategy may yield better results, certainly although the number of his ads may add up to less airtime than Portia's, the frequency with which they're played means he was actually heard more.

So me seet, anyway. Politics eena everyting, even when you seh y'a put aside politics. That in itself is a political move.

I have been tuned to Power and they are doing a great job in even staying on line would like a little systematic asessment across the parishes on the ground. I hope my people in Clarendon and Portmore are OK.

Desmond Mckenzie says it is rough and people have not taken up evacuation. I concur as I have an Uncle in Portmore who was not moving himself! People do not feel confident to leave their property!
