The Petition that some of us signed worked. A letter that I wrote berating Gelding for his idiotic argument worked. I rarely write anything <span style="font-style: italic">(in fact only three mass mailings over the years, including the petition)</span>, because I prefer a coordinated effort, but that one letter was read on almost every talk show and was featured in three articles printed in the two major Newspapers.

We have the power to force all parties to take notice; we have not used that power except as I said before to blindly serve as a public relations front for corrupt governance in Jamaica.

Aside from the letter being read on chat shows, etc, what was the *outcome*?

What steps were taken as a result of the letter?

The recipients of the letter did not just read the letter, in fact only one quoted the letter in it entirety, and the rest acknowledged the letter but used the language in the letter to frame their arguments. The letter asked for no specific actions, but Golding did moderate his tone post the letter.

Again I stress, one letter from one person is not going to change the world it is a united front that will create positive movements. I did lie a little I forgot to say that during and post election I have wrote on a PNP and a JLP BB, on the JLP Board they were very receptive <span style="font-style: italic">(till I started to criticize Gelding post the Elections)</span> on the PNP Board I got thrown off <span style="font-style: italic">(just as I have on this board and the other so-called Jamaican Boards for stating the obvious)</span>, but everything that I have predicted down to the exact location of the violence, how the PNP was going to fare post elections and how mistakes that Gelding made during campaigning for the Elections and just after the Elections was going to cripple the GOJ in crime fighting and in getting their message out.
That has happened too. If they have short memories fine, but I cannot help thinking that, some of them will remember those arguments and say we were warned.

Now I am still waiting for you to detail to me why a frontal assault, on an inept Government using the power of organized missive by those of us living in the Diaspora would not work.

Sorry – maybe I misunderstood your post – you wrote that the petition “worked” and that your letter “worked”.
I was asking – it worked to do what – what was the outcome of the two ...

Anyway, I simply believe that tangible, effective change can only come from within – from those of us LIVING in Jamaica.

Liken it to a drug addict in some ways. No matter how many times he goes to rehab – no matter how many times his parents try to help him – irrelevant how much counseling he gets – unless HE is ready to change – unless HE reaches the point within himself, where he sees the dire need for him to change his life, it wont happen.

And from what I understand, the “Jamaican Diaspora” HAS taken up campaigns and lobbied the govt to get on the ball, but, and please correct if I’m wrong – nothing seems to have changed.

Rest assured – I’m not saying people shouldn’t write or petition if they want – maybe every little bit helps ... I don’t know. I just don’t believe change will come until we at home, lead the fight.

The Petition worked in sense that immediately the Minister of National Security was booted, the Commissioner Resigned all came as a shock to everyone. We needed to have followed up on that, things have gotten worse after that an the GOJ have taken comfort that it would never hear one peep out of us again.

Yes Tuff - I agree - of course not enuff has been tried.

I'm just saying, IMHO, that organized writing campaigns - from abroad - are not effective, and wont be. If that's too strong - I'll amend it to say, they're HIGHLY unlikely to have any significant impact.

To have an effect on the runnin's in JA, that change must come from organized efforts from within.

For me - it's quite basic - the change has to come from us back home - those <span style="font-weight: bold">ON</span> the rock. It seems you disagree with this concept - totally fine. We all don't have to agree on everything.

The primary example I can give is - that of the &quot;Jamaica Diaspora&quot;. I think they've been in existence now, almost a decade. <span style="font-style: italic"> (someone correct me if I'm wrong)</span>

Yet I can't see any concrete and forceful change they've managed toinflict upon the JA govt or its citizens.

I think this conclude my further participation in this forum.
The way I see it unless it is for laughs I need not deal with things I cannot change.
Merely repeating the death toll is no fun at all.
There is a reason why this forum is called Jamaican News and Politrix we are so unmindful of the need to overstand and influence the kind of policies and direction we on the Rock that we are, for the most part satisfied with just plain old Jamaican News and Politrix as it is.
