With Bruce Golding turning his back on these people, his real problems have only just begun. How will he reconcile in any credible way with the JLP and its Leader after his utterances at the 3rd Annual Conference of the NDM at which he stated that &quot;The JLP is now seeking to position itself as the guardians of local human rights, <span style="font-weight: bold">when its own record of human rights was heavily tainted in the 1980s.</span>


At the conference as reported in The Gleaner of July 26, , he stated that &quot;The difference between myself and <span style="font-weight: bold">Mr. Seaga,</span> is that I have come to the recognition that some of the things I took part in were wrong.&quot; <span style="font-weight: bold">What were these things and what will become of them now? </span>

The &quot;guy from Boston&quot; is a Jamaican citizen, and a member of the committee that drafted the Jamaican Constitution.

Golding was the leader of the NDM and seeking to distance himself from the JLP (he was often referred to as &quot;heir-apparent&quot, and the PNP had deliberately sought to tie him to the JLP. A statement like that would be characteristic of someone trying to put some distance between himself and what he left behind.

You seem to accept the premise that Seaga is guilty of criminal acts. Between you and Bruce, what are you both insinuating? Let's hear it.

Michael Menlie used racism; terrorism and corruption to govern Jamaica between 1972-1980 then again in 1989 till he handed it over to a guy that outdid him.
Eddie Blinds was never as corrupt, as brutal, nor as destructive as Menlie and PGay was.

Technically, yes, but politically, no. A commonwealth citizen seeking a seat in the House of Representative has the burden of competing in an election. Of course, to be appointed Prime Minister, he must be a Member of Parliament and the leader of the party that commands the majority in Parliament. Any such individual who has his eyes set on Jamaica House would, it seems to me, for various political reasons, acquire Jamaican citizenship during his time in Parliament, though its not required according to the constitution. All eight persons appointed Prime Minister have been Jamaican citizens. No commonwealth citizen has ever been appointed PM. So yes, it is remotely possible, but not likely.

David Coore, one of two surviving members of the committee which drafted the constitution, wrote an article recently in the Gleaner where he noted that the inclusion of commonweath citizens was made, at the time, out of a sense of community with other countries sharing a common colonial history, and that at the time, they felt it appropriate. He now believes the constitution should be amended in that respect. Seaga, the other surviving member may also be so inclined. The constitution is silent on the issue of citizenship with regard to the office of PM, but I think those members of the committee presumed that Parliamentarians who are non-Jamaicans and citizens of the commonwealth would acquire Jamaican citizenship if they aspired to lead their respective parties. The constitution does open the possibility that a foreign born individual can aspire to the highest elected office in Jamaica, and I think that was very forward-looking, progressive, and generally a good thing - no xenophobia here.

Thanks for this quote where did you find it, I would like the true reference?
The NDM was not the guardian of Human Rights, ditto for the JLP nor any Political Party in Jamaica.

None have ever shown respect for Human Rights and we see the full effects of it now. That said, in 1963, Mr. Shearer presented a proposal to the United Nations that 1968 be designation “Human Rights Year”, this proposal was accepted by the UN General Assembly. So yes Jamaican Politicians have always been about talk. Pomp and circumstances when it comes to Human Rights, but zero substance and credibility.

...and it now proof positive that he has indeed distanced himself from the Eddie Blinds and any good that the JLP Governments under previous Leaders had managed to achieve for Jamaica and Jamaicans.
The guy while he has not been a complete failure has proven to be all hat and no cattle.

He is a talk-show host and that is all. His failures started long before he became Prime Minister, as Leader of the JLP and a self-styled Constitution Expert he ran a very poor Campaign in some spots, failed vet potential candidates almost nullifying the victory from the start. He then compounded the mistake by choosing what surely is the most inept Cabinet in the history of Independent Jamaica.

It has now been demonstrated clearly that he has no answer to the crime problem, does not give a hoot about human rights and do not have an idea how to get Jamaica on the road to financial health again.

So how is that <span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">distancing</span> from Eddie Blinds coming along these days Bruce Gelding?

</div></div>..well while he was about it he could at least look up the requirements of running for Office in Jamaica and what the Constitution says about it. It was not something that was pulled out of the blue air, his Party had already dealt with it in one form or the other already...ask Eddie Blinds.
But that is the point they JLP is never careful about its history only careful to please PNP Talking Heads and win votes, failing all the time on all fronts.

Being a tool of the United States in its immoral foreign policy does not rank Seaga amongst people to praise or emulate.

It was Manley who stood up to Kissinger and suffered the consequences. That took courage and morality in the face of what the United States did to the Sandinistas, Salvador Allende in Chile and people all over Central South America and the Caribbean.

Seaga was Reagan's dog.

No right winger as Seaga was/is ever gave two shiites about the poor or working people. That's why Seaga was newly elected President Ronald Reagan's first official guest.

The PNP was involved in the bloody coup that precipitated the invasion, so Menlie was whose dog then? Jamaica have been involved in Regional and International Operations from Grenada to Liberia, including siding with the murderous regimes in Uganda and Haiti.

If all you have on Eddie Blinds is some foreign escapade that other Caribbean and International Jurisdictions sanctioned then you have nothing. The PNP turned the guns on the State on its own people and ran corrupt governments every single time since 1972.
