The United States government has made a formal request for the extradition of Jamaica Labour Party strongman Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke on alleged drug trafficking charges.
Coke is the leader of Tivoli Gardens, where residents are fiercely loyal to the ruling party. Details are sketchy, however, Coke is believed to be on a list of drug trafficking suspects wanted by the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
Coke is son of the late Lester Lloyd Coke, otherwise known as Jim Brown, leader of the feared Shower Posse who died at the general penitentiary in the 1990s while awaiting extradition to the US for murder and drug trafficking.
Under existing conditions, the US request will be forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which it is expected to be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), then to the Attorney General’s Office and back to the DPP where arrests warrants are drawn up and sent to the police.

A Jamaican US based extradition lawyer said that extradition is only requested after a Grand Jury has been held and the individual indicted. The GOJ is in no position to deny the request, as it is then becomes a matter for the courts.Comment

i have a bredin who did get grab up wid big fanfare in 2005...him was is horizon for about 2 years before dem extradite him...him reach states and dem decide sey dem nuh have no case ..all now him cyaan reach back home(him up deh a wait pan some paperwork or sumtin so but him free) ....mi notice him on facebook now doah

remember this from 2005?
MORE THAN 40 persons, including Tivoli Gardens' community leader Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, were detained yesterday, in a massive swoop by the security forces involving hundreds of police and soldiers, armoured carriers and helicopter support.
The police said the operation, touted as one of the largest ever spearheaded, was an attempt to capture gunmen involved in the murder of three policemen in May.
But in a chaotic scene, where there was sporadic gunfire for several hours, two women, Nicola Johnson and Carol Woodley, were shot in the presence of Opposition Leader Bruce Golding, who was standing near the Denham Town Primary School, on North Street. Both women are in stable condition. There were further reports that a third woman was shot and injured, inside Tivoli Gardens.
