Folks find every reason to hate others sans the facts. For all we know this guy might be the personification of evil, but if he is that bad why hasn't he being killed in the streets (as you noted) or worse arrested, tried and convicted in a local court for even one of his evil deeds?

JAMAICAN police say they are prepared to deal with any violent incidents if West Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke is extradited to the United States to face drug- and arms-trafficking charges.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds also told the Observer that the constabulary was not contemplating seeking assistance from US and United Kingdom law enforcement authorities if there is a need to deal with social disorder.

&quot;No, we are not planning to do that,&quot; said Hinds. &quot;This is still a localised policing activity. We are satisfied that we have sufficient numbers and strategies in place to deal with all eventualities, but we are not going to be jumping the gun. There is nothing yet in the realm of law enforcement.&quot;

Coke is wanted by United States law enforcers, but the Jamaican Government, through which the official request for extradition has been made, has not signed the request since the US sent papers here in August this year.

Amid rumours that Coke has been domiciled in Tivoli Gardens, the inner city community where he is revered like a folk hero and referred to as 'The President', authorities are on edge that any attempt to place him before a Resident Magistrate's Court to answer the extradition request, or forcibly take him out of the island without trial, may result in bloodshed.

&quot;We have been hearing rumours from as early as August of this year that something could happen,&quot; Hinds told the Observer.

&quot;As the constituted authority for law and order in Jamaica, we are always prepared to deal with all eventualities. We have developed contingency planning for a range of events and activities, including public disorder,&quot; he said.

&quot;The contingency plans do have different levels and stages, certainly there is a national contingency plan and there is divisional contingency planning and to that extent, whatever is required to deal with any situation,&quot; Hinds added.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding told a heated sitting of the House of Representatives Tuesday that the request for Coke's extradition was being handled carefully by the attorney general's office. He argued that it was not unusual for extradition requests from the US to take as long as Coke's and offered as examples a number of others with their timelines.

Golding also said the US request, in the form that it was made, contravened Jamaican law.

&quot;Extradition requests must be executed in accordance with the internal laws of the requested state,&quot; he said. &quot;We have raised with the US authorities our concern that the request did not comply with the internal laws of the requested state and therefore it is not a matter of whether the minister is inclined to authorise the extradition, it is a question that the minister would be authorising something she knows is in violation of the law.&quot;.

&quot;Most requests that have been received depend for their process on the provisions of the Extradition Treaty with the particular country and on the Extradition Act,&quot; he added.

&quot;This particular request is somewhat different in that it also relies for its validity on the provisions of the Mutual Assistance Criminal Matters Act. The Government of Jamaica has raised with the US authorities issues regarding its compliance with that Act,&quot; the prime minister said.

Get it right I am a PNP supporter not a Comrade.
And let me say this if and when the President leave there would be another leader in Tivoli this leader may not be as accommodating to Comrades, PNP and no P as Short Man is.
So PNP Supporters would do well to think on these things. Make sure that they consider their welfare and do not blindly follow the corrupt Comrade Leadership of Peter Phillips, Dr. Clueless and Portia Simpson-Miller that is about to flush them down the tubes.

Government Senator, Tom Tavares-Finson, one of the key architects in the political move that led to Bruce Golding becoming Member of Parliament for Kingston Western in 2005, denied suggestions that he stabbed long-standing representative and former prime minister Edward Seaga, in the back.

Tavares-Finson, who began his association with Seaga and the constituency in 1978-79 after returning to Jamaica from studying abroad, admitted to being involved in the &quot;transformation process in the constituency&quot; but insisted he didn't let him down.

&quot;No, I do not accept that I let Mr Seaga down. Mr Seaga had indicated that he was going and I threw my support behind Mr Golding,&quot; he said in a recent interview with the Sunday Observer.

According to him, &quot;Seaga maintains to this day that it was his intention to leave. I accept that statement and I supported Bruce Golding, who eventually became Member of Parliament...&quot;

Seaga is said to have gone to battle for Tavares-Finson, who, while studying in England, fell outside of time span stipulated by the legislation which established the Norman Manley Law School.

The legislation required students to do two years at the law school or go into government service, before they would be allowed to go into private practice. Those falling outside the upper limit, would have been left in the lurch, Tavares-Finson said, pointing out also that there were ambiguities in the legislation which allowed other affected individuals to successfully argue that they were entitled to go into private practice without further studies.

Marshalled by Seaga, the legislation was soon amended and was called the &quot;Tavares-Finson amendment&quot;.

&quot;What was said was that Jamaica removed the cut-off point to benefit me, not recognising that it was removed throughout the Caribbean and I was not the only one to have benefited from it anyway,&quot; he stated.

Ironically, though he was denied the privilege in Jamaica, he was called to the Bar in Belize.

He maintains that he had no reason to let Seaga down.

&quot;Mr Seaga will tell you that he wasn't forced out. How can I sit here and tell you that he was forced, out when he himself has said he wasn't forced out.

I was a part of the transformation party and I am proud of it,&quot; he stated matter-of-factly.

<span style="font-weight: bold">He denied that influential strongman Christopher &quot;Dudus&quot; Coke -- who he is representing in the extradition matter brought by the United States -- invited Golding, who at the time was without a constituency, to accept the seat</span>. He also denied that he (Tavares-Finson) was being considered as a replacement for Seaga, along with Kingston's Mayor Desmond McKenzie.

He argued that the seat simply became available and that it was not fair to say that longstanding JLP MPs refused to give up their constituencies to accommodate Golding, who returned to the JLP just before the 2002 general elections.

&quot;I reject the notion that any one individual can decide who is the Member of Parliament for Western Kingston. I reject that notion outright. A decision was taken by all the stakeholders in Western Kingston, including Desmond McKenzie, that since, at the time that Mr Golding did not have a seat, we make the seat available to him,&quot; he said.

As to his future in representational politics, Tavares-Finson, who is four times unlucky, is reticent.

&quot;Never say never,&quot; he said. &quot;At the moment I enjoy my role at the Electoral Commission, where I am one of two JLP representatives there, and I enjoy my role in the Senate. At this point in time, there is no imperative compelling me into representational politics.&quot;

He lost against Portia Simpson in St Andrew South Western in the 1980 elections; against Hugh Small, 1989, in St Catherine Southern; against Karl Samuda in 1993, in St Andrew North Central and against Sharon Hay Webster in 1997 in St Catherine South Central.

Still, he is introduced at political meetings with musical selections referring to his infamous client, Coke.

At the recent Kingston Western constituency conference held just before annual conference in late November, his speech was prefaced by Twins of Twins song, A which Dudus dem a look fah and Bunny Wailer's Don't touch the president.

&quot;I think there is a book at PNP headquarters that says 'How to beat Tom Tavares-Finson'. I think they wrote that book. So I will wait out for a while and see,&quot; he said.

NEW YORK, USA -- Officials at the Justice and State departments in Washington remained mum Friday on the latest development in the continued Christopher 'Dudus' Coke extradition saga.

Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Bruce Golding told a sitting of the Parliament that <span style="font-weight: bold">the request by the United States for Coke's extradition contravenes Jamaican laws because of the form in which it was made</span>.

Since then, the Observer has sought a response from the US authorities, as the prime minister's comment has been interpreted here as faulting the United States for the protracted delay in the highly charged extradition case.

Rebekah Carmichael, a spokeswoman for the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, refused to comment on the latest development. United States officials do not normally comment on extradition matters, but in a rare case in October, the State Department's Laura Tischler told the Observer the US was working with Jamaican authorities to resolve any concerns they had in the matter.

In his comments on Tuesday, Golding said the Jamaican Government has communicated its concerns to US authorities. Calls by the Observer to the State Department were not returned, while Carmichael's &quot;no comment&quot; also covered the Justice Department's response.

The US Embassy says the chances that there will be any reversal of its government's decision to seek the extradition of West Kingston strongman Christopher &quot;Dudus&quot; Coke are slim to none.

Speaking with journalists Tuesday at a press conference, the US State Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central America and the Caribbean, Julissa Reynoso said her government is pressing ahead with its efforts to have him tried on drug and gun charges in the US.

When pressed as to whether there was any chance of the extradition request being revoked, Miss Reynoso had this to say.

&quot;As of now we have no intent to remove the request. We believe we have sound grounds to make the request, we wouldn't have put it forward without it. We do our due diligence quite well before we take any measures of that type,&quot; she said.

She told reporters that making Mr. Coke's extradition a reality was one of the main topic of discussion with Jamaican representatives in Kingston Tuesday.

&quot;We are working with the government. Extradition is an issue of utmost importance to our judicial system and to our domestic and international policies. This individual is considered to be a person of very high interest and we are actively engaged with the government of Jamaica to make this happen as soon as possible,&quot; she said.

In August, US prosecutors said they wanted the Jamaican government to hand Christopher &quot;Dudus&quot; Coke over to them to face gun and drug-running charges.

If convicted the 40 year old faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
