Health Minister stumped for answers about malaria outbreak
The data on malaria promised to the Parliamentary Opposition by Health Minister Horace Dalley were not forthcoming at the end of Tuesday's sitting of Parliament.
Mr. Dalley made the promise after he was unable to provide information on aspects of the malaria outbreak which was requested by the Opposition.
Fresh concerns surfaced Tuesday about the Government's claims that it has the malaria outbreak under control in the aftermath of revelations of a backlog of blood samples waiting to be tested for the disease.
The Health Minister admitted that the Ministry was pressured to deal with the backlog and has dispatched some of the samples overseas to be tested.
This disclosure triggered a flurry of questions from Opposition members.
Opposition Leader Bruce Golding sought confirmation that 1,500 samples of blood were awaiting testing.
But Mr. Dalley was not able to supply that or other answers to questions from other Opposition members.
Mr. Dalley said as soon as the information becomes available he will turn it over to Mr. Golding.
