The strain of malaria that is involved has not been seen in the Caribbean.
That mean it has been introduced by either airbourn mosquitoes from African continent,by way of hurricane force winds,or stow away in some craft,or humans that brought it from the continent. not ever stage of malaria is the person is violently ill.there are times where patients have been treated,but not completely cured. that person can transmit it to the mosquito and it will develope in the mosquito and then transmitted to other persons.

Doc accepting what you have said here I think it more reinforces what Wahalla and I have been saying, the thing is here, but the conditions existed and still remains for it to thrive.

So treat and stop blowing hot wind it is not going to make it go away. In fact what it might do is cause Jamaicans to turn on all Haitians.

doc IMHO this was a veiled attack on the Haitians.... put what you have said Haitians could not have been the source....

Doc I beleive that Maleria is a progressive periodic illness. and the new strains the release of paracites into the blood uusally happens while asleep so a carrier may not be aware. And think they have a persistant fever. However I bleive with that strain when the there is an attack that is literally a bone brweaker you know... Doc you are the Doc can somebody have a mild attack of Maleria... Was the attacks that hospitalised Jamaicans mild ????

But for years older Jamaicans carried the paracite in their blood. My father included....There was in the 70's, 80's and 90 how many cases. How come there was not an outbreak. That the local mosqitos mutated to be cariers ??? Doc this is again a public hygene issue. There is anecdotal evidence that mosquito population increased

New malaria cases uncovered

New data from the Ministry of Health show that the number of malaria cases reported since last December's outbreak has increased to 340.

The figure includes four new cases which have been identified since the start of this week.

The information was released Wednesday night by Health Minister Horace Dalley, who says the communities of Greenwich Town and Tivoli Gardens remain a challenge even as the number of malaria cases continues to decline.

Addressing the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament, Mr. Dalley said while the vector control programme has been intensified in these communities, it appears that the breed of mosquito transmitting the disease is resistant to the insecticide.

Noting that all persons with the disease have been treated, Mr. Dalley disclosed that a team will be visiting Jamaica over the next few weeks to assess the situation.

Responding to queries from Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Ken Baugh, Mr. Dalley said funds are available to fight the spread of communicable diseases, namely malaria, HIV/AIDS and Avian flu.
