Thus far in our political existence where prime ministership is concerned, the Goldings are the first to highlight in live and living colour the primary unit of a family.
A proud and up front family with not an absent father or a broken marriage, but a family with what appears to be a monogomous husband and wife love and unity, successful in business (bakery), optimized by close and caring, educated adult children.
An example of a stable and well equipped family, a firm base for any leader of any nation especially Jamaica to have.

Get serious, man,

I've looked at a handful of both the JLP and PNP ads and they are total, total political garbage.

Worse, Jamaicans like U.S. people jump and sing and chant and at these3 political rallies as if they mean something.
Worse yet is that in both countries both peoples actually BELIEVE that voting in the opposition will bring about change in the way things are done, in the way people live. After one party has ruled for 8-10 years and things haven't changed, well of course the opposition will come up with all sorts of problems that haven't been addressed by the party in power in order to get elected.

What damned foolishness.

After 47 years of rule by these people, what makes anyone think that they have any intention of changing anything serious

The PNP and the JLP both have the same interests and those interests are in maintaining the status quo, the way things are now.

There are much better things to do with your time than to listen to, watch the lies of the politricians.

Bruce Golding is yet to be tested. He has never been mandated to lead the country. So we cannot fire our guns and dismiss him just yet.

If we choose not to vote none of the above, would we be better off if some warlord, corner don take over the reins of power in Jamaica?

On another note, Cuba is gearing up for Elections, do the various fractions have Ads on UTube?

Bruce Golding has risen to the top of the JLP precisely because he has espoused and internalized what they have traditionally stood for; the status quo.
His election would mean the same as the past elections of Seaga, Patterson, Simpson; NO CHANGE.

I really can't say that Jamaica would be any worse off with a gang boss as leader.
They just have different means of robbing people.
It would make little or no difference if the entire Jamaican electorate stayed home on election day. The same people JLP and PNP would run the country just as they always have.
And everything would stay the same or get worse as it is now..

In the past we have gone through the respective worthlessness of both parties and have agreed that neither party has brought about any serious changes for the better.

So for you to go on chatting about the doings of either party is just passing gas.

As tro your questions/assertions:
1) No I am not doing any spamming. I don't do stuff like that. It's not my way of debating.

2) I watched a few of the ads that others have posted links to on this thread so I am not lying. While I can be incorrect now and then I do not lie as lying is counter productive and loses the debate when it is discovered.

3) Cuba IS gearing up for Municipal elections. It is too bad that you have no understanding of how elections are run under Cuba's Poder Popular or you would not have asked about the Cuban candidates running ads. (They are forbidden under Cuban electoral law- for very good reasons which you can learn by reading about Poder Popular-too involved to explain to you now)

The Municipal elections are local and not provincial or national. The Cuban people know who best represents them in the Assemblies since they are their neighbors and not some party hack representing the interests of a political party.
(Parties are not allowed to run a slate of candidates in any Cuban election)

Jamaicans could learn quite a bit about running honest elections from the Cubans had they open minds.

You seem to have a short and selective memory. In past threads we discussed at length the fact that neither party has come up with any serious change for the better of Jamaican society. I asked for examples and you gave none so we WERE in agreement. If you now have some serious changes made by either party that benefitted Jamaicans as a people and not just a few individuals I'll be glad to read them.

As for this board being about Jamaicans things, well, improving the Jamaican electoral system does seem to be in order and there is no better system than Poder Popular in Cuba to present as a posssiblity.

Of course, you and your countrymen/ women are locked into the old corrupt and unrepresentative system you've had since independence so I expect you don't want to hear about change. Just the same old two corrupt and changeless parties over and over. That's what i mean about passing gas. You might as well be out in the field venting last night's beans as to keep on chatting about the PNP this and the JLP that for all the good it will do.

As to your knowledge or lack thereof of Poder Popular you would not have asked ne about U-tube ads in Cuba's elections had you known that political advertising is not allowed in Cuba's elections would you ?

You would do well to look into Poder Popular/ People's Power.

Yes. When ever the PNP is in power the GDP drops from either (-)minus 25% to a high of 2% per annum.

The PNP inherited a 1971 GDP of 12% coming from an average of 6% in those years of the 1960s when the JLP was Govt.

The Manley years saw a drop to minus 25% GDP an all time low in one or 2 of those 1970s years.

Eddie Seaga took 3 or 4 years and got the GDP back up to 4% in the 80s and in 1989 after devastation by hurricane Gilbert, the GDP had begun to rise above 4%.

Then the leopard came back claiming he had removed his spots with a complete attempt at a turn around policy from failed socialism to an experiment in free enterprise only to have PJ Patterson return and take over from the ailing Michael and from ever since, 18 years of negative to bordering on 1% and 2 % GDP in some years.
Omar Davis some who claim is the best finance minister ever, has never but only relied on promises to get Jamaica a GDP per annum of over 2% during any one year.

So yes, there is a difference between them both.

The JLP has however failed to reflect positive GDP growth in much of the day to day lives where with increased reserves and more accountability, the average family did not get rides at Disney, but they did at Coconut Park and the Coney Island out by Ferry.
The JLP has shown better housekeeping, better office management and less corruption and less crime during their tenures in office.

The JLP with their numerical successes have failed to win the psyche of the people, allowing socialist rhetoric and sweet boy talk to come and wreck the country by losing out to the cosmetic PNP.

It is up to Bruce now to lead and do what the JLP did in the 60s and 80s but added to that he needs to take the Jamaican people with him to the bridge and not leave them when he has crossed over.

Then and only then will we be abled to move on and catch up with the already far developed and developing countries that we were once a flagship nation.
Lee Kwan Yu of Singapore came here in the 60s and was impressed so much at what he saw in Jamaica, he took back many ideas back to Singapore with him and you only now have to see where Singapore is, 7th in the world as the most consistent of the growing and developed nations.
It was Robert Lightbourne, JLPs minister of Development and Welfare during the 60s that was creating and openning factories all over Jamaica and in Kingston in particular.
We were manufacturing electrical appliances, TVs, Washers, Fridges, stoves to name a few.
In the 70 and in the 90s and now we have managed to close down most if not all of those that were running under Lightbourne.
And to add pride to all that, Bob Lightbourne was a Black Jamaican, not a conventional bougeroise, not a Syrian, not a plantation inheritor, but a man with a vision who did things.

So yes there is a difference between the JLP and PNP as our history has revealed.

I first came to Jamaica in 1980 and I can tell you that from my perspective and from that of Jamaicans with whom I am acquainted life has gotten harder and the country far more dangerous. Sure, the Negril area was an island of touristy tranquility and not entirely reflective of life in the rest of the country but even Negril of today is far from the bustling but peaceful beachtown it was 25 years ago.

It has not seemed to matter MUCH which party is in power.
Jamaica is very much like the United States in this.
The poor and working class has not benefited from the programs and policies of the two parties because the two parties in both countries are not concerned with the welfare of the masses. They cater to the needs of big business telling the poor that the benefits will "trickle down."

Well that's bovine excrement as we all know. The wages of the working class have dropped when you factor in inflation and the loss of critical social services like schooling and hospitals.

The electoral process is a circus of shouting and cheering with little intellectual debate and the common man is either swept up in the excitement of this charade or goes off to mutter about the foolishness of it all.

The JLP and PNP play the same game as the Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. .

One comes in and establishes austerity programs, cuts benefits until driven from office and then the other will be voted in to borrow, create jobs programs etc and run up the debt until everything goes downhill and the other party comes in again.

No serious change is ever made in infrastructure or in the betterment of life for Jamaicans because both parties are shackled to an economic form ; neo-liberal capitalism that does not and cannot work in 90% of the heavily indebted Third World countries of which Jamaica is one.

Jamaica is not Singapore which is an anomaly, an exception to the rule in the Third World.

Jamaica is poor. Jamaica is exploited by the industrialized First World for the few natural resources it possesses. Jamaica is so heavily in debt that it's loan payments have crippled it's social services and it's ability to grow out of poverty.

It is growing increasingly violent as despair turns to anger.

For more than forty five years Jamaica has been ruled by the twin parties and it is clear (at least to me) that neither party has any effective programs to deal with ANY of the serious long-term problems afflicting what should be a paradise in the Caribbean Sea.
You and others hate to hear it but Jamaica cannot remain locked into the past, chained to the failed policies that ill serve the vast majority of the Jamaican people.

Ah but why listen to me when you can be hypnotized by the empty rhetoric and baseless promises of Bruce Golding, Portia Simpson et al into falling for the same old lies again and again.

As Tuff Gong reminded me it was Albert Einstein who said that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

How many hundreds of thousand Jamaicans will "do the same thing" all over again and vote the same failed politicians and their failed policies in again and expect a different result?
Worse, how many seemingly intelligent people will chat 'bout how good the JLP is or how much better the PNP is when, in their hearts and in the deepest recesses of their minds they know better?
