Granted, living as a child on welfare in the USA is nothing like Third World poverty but all things are relative and the stigma of living on welfare is stamped on the millions who are forced to do so.

I want to see a change in Jamaica. However, I don't buy into communism in any form. Democratic Socialism however, is a way forward... I mean true democratic socialism.

So you would agree that Jamaica would be better with a socialist economy in which all businesses are run for the benefit of Jamaica as a whole with the goods and services thereby produced shared equitably by all?

And you would say that Jamaica would be better run by a government that is chosen by the Jamaican people and not by any political party, where the government, each representative is directly accountable to his/her constituency?

Sounds like Cuba.

Don't forget, socialism is communism but with a government to organize and oversee the economy. Communist societies are societies that operate with everyone getting what they need and providing what they can contribute but without the need for a government because at the advanced evolutionary societal stage at which communsim is possible, everyone KNOWS what must be done and does it without the need of force or laws.

The Communism you probably mean is the totaliatrian form of SOCIALISM that used to exist in the old Soviet Union and what exists now in North Korea (DRK) and the few other Stalinist dinosaurs still in existence.

Though there are Leninist tendencies in Cuba, that country has much that Jamaica could utilize to better the lives of its people and Venezuela is providing yet other ways to do many of the same things as the Revolution has done in Cuba.

Of course, neither the JLP nor the PNP would agree to any such changes nor would those with the real power and wealth whom the government serves.

Electing thise who want change is problematical under the present electoral system since all candidates for office are first approved by the two parties.

I would be interested in what you would consider a democratic Jamaica and what you would consider a socialist Jamaica given your thoughful approach to the subject..
