Easy Targets: the perception that they have something valuable, same as the Taxi Driver to the Extortionist.

Less Resistance: 1. they are for the most part up in age (to be kind)
2. they are for the most part English (to again be kind)
3. the number one reason of course is our bumbling, incapable security and investigative apparatus.

I think you are right, but so is the Bulb Scandal, The Drug for Guns Trade, the Taxi Extortion, etc.
These are targets of opportunity and it is most likely the ones that are closest to the target that seizes the opportunity as it presents itself.

One of my Mom’s best friends moved home 1.5 years ago – to Kingston with her husband.

Hubby runs a small business.

Early October, he was at work when robbers burst in and robbed the place.

Beat him badly, took what they wanted and knocked him down before leaving. On falling, hit his head quite terribly and passed out.

Workers came and found him.

When he came to, he remembered nothing of the beating.

Went to hospital and was treated.

The next few days he was bursting with pain in his head – went to hospital and they give him some pills – BEFORE examining him – and then sent him home.

Happened again – days later, doubled over with pain in the head – the scene repeated – to the hospital and they sent him home again.

A week passed and his wife came home finding him on the floor passed out.

Rushed to hospital, last week, they do the scans and find massive bleeding on the brain. The fall and beating were more serious than anyone believed.

They did surgery on him this past Sunday – he’s now there at UC & we’re all waiting to see how he’s going to pull thru.

Aye sah – I tell you ...

It just made me think of the Chins – when his wife called the house the other day to give my Mom some updates I answered the phone and we talked. She’s devastated. I could only think of the Chins and tell her it could’ve been so much worse – give thanks for what she had – he’s still here.

I’m sure I was of no comfort to her. And they still haven’t caught the culprits.

Aye sah ...

I almost more ticked off at the hospital. If they’d attentioned this properly on the first or second visit, he probably would be in better shape now.

I don’t know why I’m rambling – this all just makes me sad.

I think the criminals are equal opportunity thugs but as a RR, the target on your back is just brighter ...

In any case the killings have nothing to do with whether or not they are Returning Residents or Citizen of Jamaica, who have lived all their lives on the Rock. The problem is a lack of opportunities for the perpetrators and the fact that RR presents the mostly likely opportunity and the lease path of resistance.
It is not different from stealing Man Hole covers, Cash Pot Gambling, Pyramid Investment Schemes, Government Papers, Remittances, Drug for Guns trade and or the Cuban Bulb Scandal.
The last Administration has wrecked the productive capabilities of the country, therefore each and every Jamaican Citizen, high and low have had to find a way to make a living.
One cannot tackle one aspect of this problem without considering the whole.

i agree that the main issue lies in the opportunities that are available for most Jamaicans and the crime here is only going to get worse. I do however belive that Jamaicans no matter how long gone a farrin should overstand how Jamaicans who never left feel about them and their money. I do not believe this has been debunked.

Jamaicans should overstand that by returning to their old haunts with new money and the life of "Royalty" makes them kings amongst the peasant villagers and targets to the most poor or repressed. Its a fact of human nature that those of us with will soon enough become targets to those of us without and Jamaican expats should realize this more so than others. They are Jamaicans and they should know wha gwan in Jamaica. The familial ties in the country are not as powerful as the economic barriers and family can be your worse enemy here.

If I came back to Jamaica with the expectations of living like Royalty then I would expect to live the sheltered life of kings and queens. I would be guarded and protected at all costs with my money as my security.

For these dead expats their money has most likely become their killer. A king has little more than guards for real friends. I prefer to live amongst the peasants and keep quiet about my royal means.

Blaming the PNP or the JLP is like blaming Castro for Cuba when it's the Cuban people that let him rule as he does. If real Jamaicans did more than cry and talk [censored] this world would be a better place. Instead the uneducated masses of this country vote blindly for one color over another and blame each other for their own problems. When the real problem is all government and their insistence on not supporting free education in the country.

Intelligent Jamaicans have a duty to their people to educate them, instead they become politicians and take advantage of the system for personal gain (see Cuban lite bulbs for more details). They may be ethically challenged but they are not stupid, they rule the kingdom. Where are the good smart people of Jamaica? The US? Canada? England? I certainly don't see any of then running this country.

Let me take this first. I for one am not blaming the PNP and the JLP. I am blaming the 18 years of PNP distabilazatio9n and destruction of the Jamaican Economy.
They were charged with the affairs of the Jamaica, they are the ones to be blamed.

None of those were One Man. You have gotten caught up in the Cult of Personality. No one acts in history as One Man or by extension One Ooman!

Each one started as a baby and became a man surrounded themselves with others to create powerful things. Bob Marley was one man with one voice and he found some friends who could write songs and play music and they went on to great things but never be fooled that one man can't start a cult. Ask Jesus.

In the first place you have not provided any proof that these folks have moved back into their old neighbourhoods.
You have not provided any proof that these folks in any way shape of form flaunted any wealth.
In fact you have not even provided any proof that these folks have wealth to flaunt.

When I said debunked, I meant others had put forward that view in the past and it has been debunked because of the all the above, that I have put to the I.

Now if you are going to make the argument about RR flaunting their newfound success then, it applies to the Taxi Drivers, The Contractors or any one working and living in Jamaica.
We therefore cannot rely on the argument that the perpetuators committed the crime because he or she is tempted.

In my mind the problem is one of the total breakdown of law, order and Governance in Jamaica.
