It is no secret that the United States has long sought to dominate the Caribbean region, and to reduce the presence of European powers. The Spanish-American War is the most obvious example, which resulted in the Spanish giving up some of their Caribbean possessions, such as: Cuba, the Phillipines, and Puerto Rico.
It is rumored that had the Second World War not occurred when it did, the British Navy, and the U.S. Navy, would have slugged it out over the Caribbean possessions of the British Empire. I strongly believe that one of the influences behind Jamaican independence was not so much the political movements in Jamaica, but also the efforts of the U.S. It is one of the prices Britain paid for accepting American aid, during World War II. I think Britain would give up the Cayman Islands too, except that referendums regularly held, show Britain as being highly favoured by the Caymanians.
There was also an article by the late Prof. Carl Stone, in the Daily Gleaner, that suggested that during the early stages of the development of violence in the Parish of Kingston, there were youths who were being armed with guns, and given a vile concoction of drugs, intended to make demons out of angels, and to enable them to overcome their upbringing, and inhibitions, towards extreme violence to other human beings. These drugs were said to have been supplied by foreign agents, along with M-16 rifles.
Of course, in today's Jamaica drugs are no longer necessary to make demons out of ordinary human beings (or angels), there are already full-fledged demons that trod the beaten ground of that emerald isle.
