Wardob, long time no hear! ~ Thanks for those videos; they brought back memories of a period in Jamaica, that will forever haunt many of us... I am sure that many old timers on Ja.Com is aware that I was a fan and supporter of Michael Manley in my young days. ~ It was during a period, growing up in Jamaica, becomming politically aware and for me, thought that the world began and ended in Jamaica until I migrated... As a young child, I even believed that Joe Louis, the boxer, was a JAMAICAN until I knew better.
Michael, the boss of the NWU, I met in my capacity as a union delegate and became one of his diciples, meaning, "he could do no wrong" as far as I was concerned... I later came to realized that he was only human, and was terribly disappointed in his role as "Prime Minister of Jamaica"... I did not live in Jamaica in the turbulent days of the late 60's and the 70's, but on visits during the period, I came to realize that Jamaica had slipped badly, very badly under his "stewardship" as leader...
I was never one, who was against "Socialism" because that's what the party under his father Norman, described itself as, and as for the British experience, I saw no threat... His dalliance with Castro and Democratic "Socialism" got him in trouble with the US.. As a result, the "Moneyd Class" took their money and ran, followed by a large sector of the middle class who did likewise... The stories told when I visited seemed unJamaican, they were so "unreal"... To me Jamaica has never been the same again... He became more penetent, sought forgiveness; won a next election, but could not put Jamaica (like Humpty Dumpty) back together again. ~ He literally "derailed" Jamaica, Land we Love...
