oh point to note: my laptop is connected to the router wirelessly but my desktop is hard-wired along with my 2 printers.

Should be fine as I have the same setup with multiple PCs and my laptop.

Which one are you using to access the internet?

Yeah, something is fishy One more thing we can confirm:

Right click My Network Places -&gt; Properties
Right click Local Area Connection -&gt; Properties
Right click Internet Protocol -&gt; Properties -&gt; General tab -&gt; Advanced -&gt; WINS tab

Ensure &quot;Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP&quot; is selected on both systems.

My brain hurts trying to remember all this stuff

My advanced tab only has the Windows Firewall settings as option.
It doesnt have what you have listed below

okay, when I do the same on my laptop, my LAN Connection 12 says network cable unplugged - which is the setting on my dekstop.

the wireless Network Connection is labeled as connected, firewall.

If I try to bridge the connection I get:
To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least 2 LAN or High-speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection

Can't be. It should have the WINS &amp; DNS settings Try disabling the firewall on both systems and see what happens.

1. Firewall in use is my Norton. I disable the windows one.

2. I swear, when I first looked there was no other option in the advance tab on my laptop other than the firewall

3. It now has &quot;Internet Sharing Settings&quot; and I selected
&quot;allow other network users to connect thru this computer's internet connection&quot;

4. I looked in the &quot;settings&quot; tab next but I dont have the enable option you listed below....no really it isnt there.

What I have is
NetBIOS Datagram Service
NetBIOS Name Service
NetBIOS Session Service

This is on my laptop under the LAN Connection 12 which says &quot;network cable unplugged&quot;

I am not losing my mind It isnt visible on my PC for sure. I am looking at the advance tab as I type (I have a widescreen )

Ah, now story comes to the fore. I'm willing to bet (well, not really) but trade you a platter of chicken wings that Nortons is the culprit. Disable Norton, and try mapping to a share.

BTW, re the settings above, does it allow you to choose any of the NETBIOS services? If so, choose the second one.

The laptop will say &quot;network cable unplugged&quot; because though you're using wireless, the 'wired' adapter is still enabled. That's fine though.

oie, I think I need to back away from this networking thing

I rebooted my desktop only to be told that my network connections couldnt be established......and the answer to your next question is &quot;I dont know&quot;

I still think I dont have something properly enabled on my laptop.
