Routers

[Nylah]

Please to come chat again about routers. I know there was a thread on it a while back but I cant keep searching for it.

My router is about 7 years old. A netgear b ang g.

It works fine for the most part. Main problem is that the range isnt good. Drops connect alot when I am upstairs.

The antenna cannot be removed so those range extenders/booster are not an option.

What routers would be recommended now?

I can do G and N.

Buy of make extension antenna that will raise your signal.
Even the simplest DIY ones will give a great boost over the performance of the OEM antenna.

I did and it was a waste of money.

They require that I unscrew the antenna on the router to add the extension.

However like I said, my antenna cannot be screwed off. I did check with Netgear already just to be sure. It is an old model.

</div></div>The ones you can make just slips over the current one.
In any case even a new one might have problems getting through walls etc because of the nature of WIFI Signaling.

Newer ones might have better firmware that might allow it to acquire and keep the signals better so it might be better to get a new one.

I'm using a Linksys G and the range is fine covering three levels in the house.

I have a weird question on the older wireless routers. Do they affect mobile phones. My wireless router is over 6 years old. Whenever I go into the room with me mobile phone it is like a deadzone...no bars...

If it manifests itself in a loss of signal on your handset with regularity then I would say it has been proven.

I have looked in Staples and on Netgear's website and I do not see antenna's that can be slipped over my current antenna?

If I can find an extender then I think that will suffice because overall my router works okay.
