(chuckle) I remember as a kid, coming home to the bars both inside and out, broken, cut or bent, and stuff missing from the house.

Everytime I go back to the old house in JA where dad lives... Gate to the driveway. Gate to the front porch. Gate to the front door. Gate inside to block off the rooms, not to mention dual bars for the windows.

Yes, I have a security system in my own house, but that was because the ex wanted one. I will admit I set it everytime I leave the house now.

so that is your house in JA you are referring to Linskinny?

How do you find it? Any pros or cons about its operation and such?

No, the house I'm referring to is in the US, and the the alarm is from Brinks. When I got the system put in, I worked with the sales person to do something I designed. The teaser 'free' systems that you get with any of the companies IMNSHO sucked. It was so easy to bypass, that it was somewhat amusing listening to the BS of the sales people. Sadly, many of those teaser systems are installed. If you want to know the pros and cons of the system I have here, lemme' know, but the info while somewhat similar, wouldn't <span style="font-style: italic">completely</span> pertain to systems in JA.

ah okay.

I have a security system here in Canada as well that uses land line and a cellular unit for back up if my lines are cut.

Is the system with Brinks similar?

Since I have been thinking of installing security system in my houses in Jamaica, I wanted to find out if the systems here are adaptable to there.

There are some obvious drawbacks with Jamaica but I was hoping there could be some ways to compensate for them.

now this seems interesting and dare I say, smart

I just dropped a pretty coin ripping up the earth and thing to put in water pipes and to run electrical wiring that was actually up to <span style="font-weight: bold">code</span> last year but I would love to be off the grid so to speak with solar powered energy. You see nuff houses on the Home &amp; Garden network that run either fully or partially on solar power.

I'm gonna take some time to research this and see what the costs involved are.
