looks like I am special

actually, a know a few other peeps who had cable and vonage, and they all eventually switched. I was in a brand new 'hood with few houses so I didnt have much in the way of bandwidth competition about the place and it still sucked.

If u have DSL CEW then u should be cool.

My phone bills were slashed to less than half of what I paid thru Telus previously. Plus all the other options were very handy and cool even though I struggled with the sound quality issue.

I use DSL and can't complain about bandwith (cable is shared bandwith so there will always be issues dependent on how many people in your neighbourhood are simultaneously pulling from the same provider). </div></div>

I got one of the MagicJack to play with. I figure for $20, it wouldn't cost me much to test it for a year. It works. Going to get two more for family in JA and they'll be able to call me for next to nothing. Mom gave up her land line for a magic jack. I know a few others in the office that have done that too. I'm using a headset with it and it works, although I'm not fully convinced yet. Only issue I have is the stupid thing want to dial a partially type number. The timeout value is too low. No way that I can find to change it. Running on a 1.5mbps dsl cct, and have not had any complaints on sound quality. I need to test the alarm with it and just too lazy to run the wire to the control box, but see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Also Yahoo messenger voice works quite well, but you can only use it to other yahoo users. (and it free to them.)

My sister has the Magic Jack since Christmas and loves it. She has to keep her computer on 24/7 thou.

Yeah, but if I don't plug it in, anybody want me, know seh mi check email more than me answer the phone. If you have an old laptop, that will work with it too.

Sleep mode? It only go to sleep if me tell it to go to sleep. Nuttin' more annoying than having to wait fi the computer to start back up when me a read someting' pon the screen.

I do have it turning off the hard drives and monitor after an hour though but it works fine. As posted, the pc has to be 'on.'

Hello, Everyone! I have had the magicjack for about 4-5 months now. Initially had sound problems with the wireless phone you need (main phone plugged into the computer) but have changed 3x and now it is much better. Still have minor sound problems but it is worh it in the long run. Of course, we have cell phone for back up. I can't put the computer in hybernate or the phone won't ring so it goes into a power save and monitor shuts off after a few minutes of non-use. The savings is great, though! I called Puerto Rico with no extra charges, which was cool.

That's the difference between Vonage and MagicJack.

Vonage, computer off
MagicJack computer on 24/7

I use the first one at home and the letter on the road for this reason.
