By di way, mi noh use MSN but mi tink dem also have di voice chat function. However, yuh have more people pan di other wan dem, an MSN is more restrictive in nature. IM an YM bin have it di function di longest though. Hope it works out for you. If not, yuh kno whe fi cum fi answers.

Yahoo lets you use voice (and webcam) while hooked up to other Yahoo users by enabling "voice chat".

Skype is free of charge as long as the person you are trying to contact is also a Skype user - I've talked with a friend in Nigeria a few times from Cali and not paid a dime.

You cannot place a call because Messenger is not currently connected to the voice service. This is either because you are behind a restrictive firewall, or because we are working hard to fix a problem with the voice service.

Are they down now?

AOL instanr Messenger is a little easer to configure, you may want to also give it a try:

I use Yahoo Messenger and it is great fun knowing you are connecting with friends in faraway places for 'free'.
In reality the calls are not totally free as you will have paid your ISP provider a monthly fee BUT it is still very good value connecting to friends via the Internet.
The most cost effective is if you both have Yahoo Messenger because you can speak via headphones and a webcam.
I have chatted for a couple of hours at a time to friends overseas and had great fun. I could never have rang them for this length of time via a BT land line without running up HUGE telephone charges. My ISP costs me £16 per month for Broadband (approx. 1,600 JS$ depending on exchange rate).
In comparison, if I ring my fiance in Jamaica via my BT line to his Digicel a 30 minutes call costs me just under £15 (1,500 J$).
I was very interested to checkout Skype mentioned here.
Apart from the potential viruses, please make a note that the calls to a mobile phone via your computer are not free. There is a cost.
You need to check out these costs on Skypeout which is a different package. Costs vary between the country you are calling.
One other important thing to note is that the costs are per MINUTE and not per SECOND. I don't know how the system works in the States but with BT you get charged per second not per minute. The 'per second' is cheaper in the long run because your calls are not being rounded up to the minute.

Anna, You have to give (each one if these) Messenger programs permission in ZoneAlarm to go out to the internet.
