I really like it. Faster than Vista (I still have to reinstall most of my apps as Win 7 was a clean install) and I haven't had to install one driver so far. I think this is what Vista should have been.

Yes it is tight!

However, dem really gi yuh di shaft if yuh waa upgrade an older XP laptop, di blastid ting noh hav di proper drivers, an yuh can't find dem from di original hardware manufacturer. mi ha pull mi hair out ah try get di hardware fi wuk (NIC, Wireless, USB). Di sound driver from XP wuk, but dat is about all mi caa get fi wuk right now. Mi kno sey dem noh expect mi fo goh out an buy ah brand new jus fi use Win-7, wen mi hav ah perfectly great laptop already.

Dem really ah loose out pan ALL dem millions of XP customers out deh whe waa switch ova dem laptop tuh Win-7 but can't!

When You do a clean install, you lose your existing drivers.

What You probably did not do was to do the most recent update of XP before you make the move to W7.

Since if you update XP they are all the same.
the last updates usually down load drivers that is used in the current OS.
That is one of the reason why you have more problem with machines that were not connected than the connected ones. Doc, my lap top was/is all up to date with MS patches.

The last ting I did before attempting any update was to make sure my system was current. I first tried to do ah straight update install of Win-7. It almost completed then hung on the last step at 64% competition. It told me after I powered back up again that di system was incompatible, and it would revert back to the previous operating system. I tried several times.

I finally did ah format HD, and clean install, dat is di ongle way I could get it fi install at all on di XP machine. But as I said not all di drivers were compatible wid di XP machine hardware.

Oh, and yes di laptop was connected to di internet during di install, because it went online to download the latest Win-7 update before it started the actual Win-7 install.

IUt usually do.
What i usually do after that is to reinstall XP. Then update it again,and then do a clean install of W7 after that. I learn that rule from way back when i mess around with microsoft as beta tester..

Otherwise the drivers will not be transferred..If you fin the web page of the drivers by googling the problem you are having you should be able to download the patches for them .

Vista has left me feeling bitter toward Microsoft and the whole idea of giving them another $100+ just so my computer will suck less and work more like it suppose to angers me.

That old desktop with Ubuntu finally just gave out. I eventually purchased a new laptop with Vista.

Actually the new laptop was causing me much grief this week but I updated some of my drivers and it has been performing much better since. But I still hate Vista!

My uncle is still using Ubuntu on his 10 plus year old desktop and he seems happy enough.

You still running Ubuntu CEW?
