MI get dis new laptop, mi need fe transfer nuff tings from de ole one tuh de new one.
What is the best way to go about this?

How does this 'sharing" thing work?

Is it better to use the USB 100GB drive I have?

And if I go that route wah mi duh, juss copy all de files from the program section to the hard drive then to the new laptop?


Is there a way through ethernet?

De old laptop needs a motherboard das why mi guh fe a nex one.

You could use the external drive, but if you already have a network in place you could just use the LAN to transfer files (make a shared file folder to transfer then remove when you are done). Programs are different, they often have many registered componets that need to be carried to the new machine. Usually its just not worth the hassle/time vs reloading program from a cd and restoring data. So backup your data then install your programs and restore data.

Mi tek de hard drive out putee een a one enclosure.

Dats cool BUT...

mi a try fe get mi address book out of outlook express (on the old hard drive) and when eva mi clik pan "WAB" or whateva it is I think it reverts to the outlook express on the current laptop.

Anyhow is weh mi find all the emails that were in the previous outlook express which di deh pan de ole hard drive? Meanin which pawt a de hardrive or outlook express does it store all the emalis in?

"Select File, Import, Messages.... Choose Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and press Next. Select Import mail from an OE6 store directory and press Next. Now on the next screen Browse to the location that you've placed the message store we saved from your old machine. Import, and your messages should now be transferred.

The process for the address book is similar - even simpler. File, Import, Address Book..., select the address book we exported above, and import."

Changing the Location of Your E-Mail Files

You can easily change the location Outlook Express will stored your e-mail files.

1. Go to Tools / Options
2. Click on the Maintenance tab
3. Click on the Store Folder button
4. This will show the current directory that is being used
6. Click on the Change button
7. Browse to the new drive and directory
8. Changes will be made after you exit and restart Outlook Express
9. Files will automatically be copied the next time you start Outlook Express.



You can then do a backup and then export the (backup files) to your new drive.


To export your Outlook Express address book:
1. On the File menu, click Export, and then click Address Book.
2. Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click Export.
3. Click Browse.
4. Locate the Mail Backup folder that you created.
5. In the File Name box, type address book backup, and then click Save.
6. Click Next.
7. Click to select the check boxes for the fields that you want to export, and then click Finish.
8. Click OK and then click Close.

Fuss of all. I can't access the address book form the old hardrive tht WAS in the last laptop. I've gotten an enclosure suh mi cyan link it troo USB.

Whn I click pan pan E: which is de old hardrive form the lass laptop all is well. Then I go to programs, then Outlook Express. Then I go to WEB which is the address book. BUT what it does is give me the address book of the 8 I have now on this laptop.

So I decided to tek de drive n puttee pan a different laptop and it did the same, it showed me the addresses that were on thet laptop.

I think I'm gonna tek out de hardrive outta dis new one an put eee de one wid de info mi want, den bunn it to a cd. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

Why don't you copy the old HD to a DVD,from the enclosure, and then search for the files and then load them to the new laptop,Instead if putting it in another laptop to do that? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
