[i]The Linksys RTP300 is small and fully portable. Simply unplug the device and take it wherever you want it anywhere in the world. Just plug it into any broadband Internet connection, connect a phone, and your Vonage line is ready to go!
Did this a couple of times when testing features to determine what another company that wanted to offer the service should add to their offer package. That company does not offer the range of features that vonage offers, nor is its price point as low.

if you have a laptop with a wireless card or choose to connect your pcs to the internet w/o using cables then a wireless router would be good. the wireless router usually has ports for an ethernet cable.
Personally I would prefer to keep my mta (the vonage adapter) separate from the router and connect via ethernet cable.. because it is easier to troubleshoot if there are any problems.
I like Linksys routers..

Have any of you tried Skype? If the person on the other end has Skype, you can talk as long as you want for free - if they don't then there is a minimal charge - I haven't used to to JA, but I have to Barbados, Ghana, and the UK - excellent connection, easy to use.

I think my sister (who recently moved to New Zealand) wants to try this. I will clarify with her and report back.
I hav neither Vonage nor Skype. It would seem that the cost benefits ONLY kick in if you have straight CABLE internet broadband, and NOT with DSL, since you are required to have phone service with the DSL (ISP) provider, before they will give you DSL service?
It would also seem that from what Kia implied, that you may not need a modem to use Vonage, since she said, "she connect via ethernet cable"?
here in Canada you dont have to use cable internet to use Vonage you can use DSL....I need to get rid of my phone service from my internet provider and use Vonage but the service is not available in my area and then I sign up with them
Right now I can but I would have to change my phone number and the number that I can get would be longdistance for people calling me even from next door..I want to keep my phone number that I have.
you can have vonage with dsl service and the modem needed would be a dsl/cable modem connected via a router (is one way to connect) .. why would someone with dsl want vonage? to connect an additional ine (possibly for a teenager who talks a lot on the phone) without having to incur the additional taxes & surcharges billed by bell.
