I need a new stereo!

I need a replacement system.

I would also like to integrate my iPod to it. The smaller in size the better, I have precious little room. That is the one positive thing in all this, the Pioneer system that suddenly quit working was a monster, with a big two piece receiver/amp & the speakers! One day I came in the house and my system wasn't on anymore, and I can't even locate a fuse...so it must be time!

I don't need anything fancy, but sound quality is a must. My house is very small, and I have a bedroom stereo hooked up to the puter, so just a two small room size unit. I don't really even need surround sound per say, just to hook my TV to the stereo would be fine enough! I don't need to crank decibels to the moon anymore...

Any suggestions?

Under 500.00 please. I was looking at a Yamaha for around 350.00 that had a little bar style speaker thing for under the tv...but what do those sound like?

I have no idea what is good anymore, it has been eons since I bought a new system! Of course, I would love a Bose, but $), just don't wanna spend the $$$$ for one.

check bestbuy dem ha nuff receiver amps for under 500 an nuff a dem have de ipod hook ups now. Like dis Denon here

so Nanook in English you need a device that can connect to your existing speakers that will give you the ability to play your ipod yet also have an FM receiver?

Kia, I am so not great at explaining! My Surround system up and dead. Was connected to tv, CD player and the dish. This is where I am in trouble... (the hookup) I need EASY replacement! Must sound good too.need to replace it with something I can hook up to the tv and CD player, plus iPod. I do have speakers, so now don't know which route to go...just get a small unit with speakers or a receiver and use the speakers I have, except surround sound is not really necessary. I take ease of installation over that right now.

dahJah, can you expound on the difference between some of these systems? Like, the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 7.2, and so on...(links or info, this kind of thing makes my head hurt), and what are requirements that I need if I want to hook up several components to it? I am working with a very outdated mind, and outdated equipment to replace, which is why I am here. I used to be able to do this stuff...not so sure now.

5.1 and all these systems with .1 and .2 are surround sound systems

.1 and .2 are your sub woofers where you have either one or two subs in stereo

5 or 7 would be your surround.
5 being 3 in front and two rears and the .1 your sub

I've actually never seen a surround with 7, even though now they have 10 surround in Cadillacs and other vehicles.

I am liking the Yamaha receiver Rich posted. Under 300 without the speakers too, which I already have a decent set.

I do like the idea of a sound bar though.

for that kind of music high quality bookshelf speakers are great. your speaker (the main ones) shouldcost you just about as much as you spend on the rest of your equipment.
