This is a very good question ..I am all ears.

Soon I have to make a decision as to which way to go and don't want to make up my mind in the store.

Also in the market for a tablet. Need recommendations.

Except for the flip-phones, they are pretty much all called smsrt-phones, because they do a lot more now than just make phone calls, keep address book, or calendars.

Personally, I am biased towards the Android model phones over the iPhone, because it gives me a lot more flexibility and way more free software out deh fi it dan di iPhone. Most of all di operating system os open source, soh developers are free tuh improve pan ie an resease all kina free stuff fi ie. IPhone lock dung dem OS, as well as dem waa yuh fi pay fi moas ah dem software.

However, I will let othere give you their personal opinion on yuh questions.

Well as an former iPhone owner and the current owner of an Android phone I will ring in with my 2 cents.

iPhone is nice, rock solid performance, sleek etc... . The only thing about the iPhone is that Apple tries it's best to keep it's customers on a short leash. Unless you are prepared to jailbreak your phone, and break free of Apples firm grip you are limited to how you sync your phone and how your phone will display and perform. While going through the procedure of jailbreaking your phone will free you, it in itself brings up other challenges when you want to perform updates etc... . Also with the iPhone you are stuck with limited features because there is just a few versions of the iPhone. For example, the iPhone has a 3.5 inch screen which personally I find too small for an enjoyable web browsing experience.

Android on the other hand = freedom to a lot of people. You have a wide variety of phones to chose from from various manufacturers. You have phones with different features and screen sizes. My Android phone has a 4.5 inch screen and I love it. Much easier on the eyes. You can also download your apps from multiple sites with an Android and you can also plug your phone into a computer and have it show up just as if you had plugged an external drive (which again, I love).

Android phones tend to be less expensive than the iPhone. You can easily change the battery yourself with an Android phone (not so with the iPhone).

While Apple likes to boast that the iPhone has access to more apps, that is not the case any longer. Pretty much any app you can get for the iPhone is also available in an Android version.

For me, I love the iPhone but I love my Android more just for the freedom it gives me to put what i want on my phone from wherever I want and I can customize my phone to look and run the way i want it too without jumping through the hoops of jailbreaking.

Oh ya, almost forgot. The iPhone will not run Flash, while the Android phones will. So some of the web content you come across may not be able to be viewed on the iPhone unless you download some apps to remedy that issue. No issues with Flash with Android.

Wendy, as far as a tablet goes, talk to J-kid about his Asus. The one he has just purchased seems by all accounts to be the ONE right now. I'm thinking of getting one myself as well in a little while.

Mi glad mi stop by. I'm due for an upgrade in July. I currently have a BBerry which I'm kinda tired of and don't tell them but mi tired a BBM lol. Was really eyeing the iPhone but now mi nuh so sure I'll get it. Friend a mine has an android (can't remember the name) but the thing costs almost $300. I'm a teacher, hello?

But we will see! Keep talking.

Milo - what about the iPad for the lady up top? (not a tablet person here. Gimme ma computer and done.)

Nice Milo ..love that break down I have been asking around outside this conversation and Android seems to get the most thumbs up. Mi feel comfortable going that route now

In terms of tablets ..I am also not interested in the Ipad. ..so looking for something else.

LOL PDP .. I only need it for business. Mi not really a tablet person but mi need something small to carry around to facilitate certain transactions

Well the iPad is a nice piece of equipment fi true. However, there again you are buying into Apples controlling ways.

Tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy and now especially the Asus Transformer Prime are a much better buy IMHO.

Again, the iPad will amaze but the other tablets I mentioned here will amaze too, plus will leave you free to roam.

The iPad also does not like Flash, so web browsing will be initially limited to how Apple has determined you will see the web.

Steve Jobs must have been a control freak is all I can say.

To address the original question. Android phones, iPhones, Windows Phones, Blackberry phones etc.... are all considered "smart phones". Windows phones as far as I know are not keeping pace. Blackberry has a mostly "business" following but many of it's faithful are jumping ship. My company has just flipped from Blackberry to iPhones for all our sales staff. Android seems to be gaining ground quickly and IMHO will probably become the front runner in smartphone sales.

Yep - like I said up top ..never considered an IPad. Too overpriced and for I need a tablet for, it's not worth the "hype." I have to make common sense decisions and not buy into fads and hype.

Just Googled Samsung Galaxy ..so that I can learn more.
