Go to Best Buy and buy the linksys wireless home router, I can tell you the model I have when I reach home (wrt....), take it out the box and basically follow the cd directions and you will be surfing in not time. However, here is where you need a professional or need to perform the next step. You will have to secure your signal, this is not basic you will need to type in the router server which is typically 192.168.2.1, go to your wireless security tab and enable either WEP or WPA, you will see a padlock beside your SSID if you have done this correctly. Also change your SSID from Linsys to more personal name so people know you are not some amatuer and know the basic of setting up a router. Also make sure you download the latest firmware software.

The reason I say this is that people search neighborhoods looking for unsecure signals and can hack into your computer. That is why I recommend using only your laptop for wireless but attach the tower with your secure information by cable to the router back. Dont buy a wireless card for the tower PC. I have two laptops in my home plus a tower, it took some time adding the laptops as I would secure the signal but my laptops would get blocked out, nothing beats reading news online anywhere you want. I recommend Best Buy as they have Geek squad, they wanted to charge me 159 for install alone, but I decided to research it and do it myself. Hope all goes well.

All laptops manufactured in the last two years will have wireless. However most desktop or tower PCS will not, unless you had it personally built and added it on during manufaturing (i.e Dell on-line system)you will need to buy the card pop off the computer cover and insert the wireless card into one of the empty slots your computer have. I do not recommend it if your computer keeps your personal information like bank and credit card passwords etc. Connect your tower by a cable directly to the router.

Question/Problem...the internet connection is in the LRoom right ...and the PC I am trying to get connected is in a bedroom ..around the corner from the LR ? meaning that there is no direct path from the PC to where the internet connection (modem) is..meaning there is a WALL in the way.

Do I need anything else besides whats already on my shopping list to ensure connectivity ? the router and the adapter ?

OR should I hook it up first, see if I am getting a strong signal and if I am not getting any....then take it from there..unnu fallah me ? [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70459-hugs.gif[/img] thanks

Are those things secure [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img] I would personally go for de PC card wid de antenna panee and de router. De usb sintin will work roun de corner caz I tried one in mi faddaz at onetime, but ended up tekkin it back cause it was finniky [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/desdentado.gif[/img] but now him have woreless suh everyting kool now.
