I inserted the CD and moving right along, did a check and after mi plug in the cable/wire to the wireless router none a the ethernet port dem light up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]

matter of fact mi juss unlug the modem from my laptop and searched for an unsecure wireless connection, found one and roamed the net for a while.

If it is a new connection the default on the box is most likely wireless off, so you have to log into the box to turn it on.

Of course you have to do that from a wired LAN and not from a wireless link.
Are you having a problem with the Desktop Communicating with the Router?

You can do it from a Laptop but you must be connected via wired LAN. So use the Wired Network Port on the LapTop.

To log into the Router it should be:

191.168.0.1

The default login and password for Linksys should be:

admin
default

or maybe:

administration
default

Check the paperwork that came with it.

I just stole some wireless connection to check if my internal card was not busted..


OK so I followed the instructions in the linksys cd etc using my laptop (cause this is what I am using to set it up)

but after unplugging and plugging back all the wires etc...the router is supposed to light up with the power, internet and at least 1 ethernet port lights...everything else was lit up except that none of the ports were lit up [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

and until at least one of the ports (it has 4) is lit up I don't think I should be at the point where I insert the IP address and the admin/default.

hope this nuh too confusing

(1) From the Wan (Cable Modem/DSl/ADSL) make sure you plug into the Wan side of the Router.

The Router will take a few seconds to DL info from the Modem.

Plug in a LAN Cable in one of the Router Ports.

Plug the LAN to the Network Port of the LapTop.

If there is no light on any of the ports make sure electrical connection to the Router is good.

Your LapTop should inform you that a LAN Connection has been found if the connection Icon is setup to be in the tray.
In any case an unlit port on the router means no information.

Is the Cable Good?
Some Routers will not work with CAT 6 Cables when it was meant to work with CAT 5/5e.

yes I did everything you said ...like right now I am on the net no problem with my laptop OR the modem connection

but as soon as I hook up back everything...mi get error message during the istallation. when it start check fi the router

"router not connected or check ethernet adapter"

I will try and get a linksys person pan the phone later tonight..cause it not supposed to be this [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bexbad.gif[/img] complicated

I had problems with my ethernet card. it just would not detect anything plugged in so i got a usb to ehternet adapter and 0 problems since. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

connect via ethernet,

Log into the admin screen oft he router and then step through the wireless stuff..

there should be tabs and they have (usually) decent explanations on how to get the wireless connection active

give ur ssid a name -- eg Genevil
and then see if your wireless router can discover Genevil

All along I had been inserting the network cables into the slots mi a seh to miself "how comes dem nuh feel snug as a bug inna the slot dem"...the new cable weh come wid the new router [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img] it was either too loose OR would not work in some of the 4 ports on the router. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bexbad.gif[/img] whadevah [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img] why wouldn't the router be detected when the network cable was inserted in some ports and not in others ? wah kinda foolishness dat [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70400-talktohand.gif[/img] kissteet. I am testing this out for the next 24 days before mi decide if it's working like it should.

Next on the agenda ?

to get likklegen's PC connected via USB [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img]
hook up a wireless printer that we can all share [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img]
re subscribe (a one word this) to VOIP
hook up a webcam so likklegen can see aunty, uncle dog and puss all ova the world [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif[/img]

mi feel seh the VOIP box a guh tick me off. cho.
