Mi have a good one now but mi a upgrade de studio in a few months.
Mi want one weh have a printer server or one I can jus hook up tuh de router ( I guess that's a printer server inside de router)

How mi kno which router can jus hook up a printer fi wireless networking?

I installed this unit approximately one week ago and it will not stay connected to the internet no matter what I have tried or Linksys technical support has. The wireless N doesn't have a standard yet. My mom has one, but without the storage option. Most of her computers are wired to it. My laptop is the only one new enough to have the proper security security settings for the wireless. Range is on par with the wireless G. It isn't that much better, no matter what them advertise. Linksys have the market share and more, although lousy corporate, support than the other units. You can go to linksysinfo.org to get some info on the different models. The site also offer an alternate operating system for the unit but it isn't affiliated with the company.

Having dealt with the support people ova deh. I will seh, dem no ha no sense. You do NOT need the CD to mek the router work wid the pc. Just a tiny bit of knowledge how to setup wireless products. I had a problem, knowing that the router was the issue. Tried to get warranty service. The eediat dem tell me seh mi internet connection that I've had for 17 years is not compatible with dem router. Dem couldn't figure out why I didn't use a DSL modem. After telling them multiple times I didn't have a modem, dem keep tell me to power off/on the modem. 5 of the flippin eediat dem couldn't figure it out. The survey was not very nice with my comments.

For the printer, some printers have an ethernet connections. (The term is network capable.) Cable goes directly from the printer to the router. Pc's use either wireless or cable to go to the router, and from there to the printer. Works fine. Occasionally you have to make some configuration changes to the router to 'allow' traffic between the wireless and wired ports. Varies by the router. The term 'print server' can mean a few things. Sometimes it's a box that the printer cables to, and then the box connect to the router. Sometimes, it mean the printer itself, which is network capable. Then another way is an actual pc that the printer is connected to, and the pc shares out the printer to the other pcs on the network. The pc connected to the printer in this case is the print server.

I bought the Linksys WNR834B Wireless N router last spring and could not get the damn thing to work. Even the techinicans couldnt figure out why I wasnt connecting wirelessly. So I sent it back and have been using my old Netgear router with no problems with my new system.

If wireless N isnt standarized yet, what do u suggest, LinSkinny?

I went with LinkSys wireless G with speedboost because of availability of web forum support. Price usually run $69.
Unu (or me!) can't afford the real cisco router and the trunk lines you need to run dem! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img] (but as posted, cisco own linksys.)

The thing about the wireless N...once the engineering society mek up dem mind, the firmware in the router can be updated to reflect the new changes, but I figure why pay another $30 fi something not yet standard.

If you couldn't get the 'n' to work, probably the network card in the pc wasn't compatible. Most of the current wireless cards run 'g' and the older ones run 'b.' You should have been able to force the router to either 'g' or 'b and then match the pc card security to the router security. (this was probably the problem if the card was compatible.) All the letters represent is the particular way of transmitting the data wirelessly and each higher one is an improvement over the other. The router, the card and the security on both sides have to match.

I actually have a Linksys wireless G network adapter for my new desktop system and the silly thing still wouldnt work. The techinicans checked that I had everything matching and still no go.

I want to update my router cause my office is in the basement and when I venture up to my bedroom with my laptop, the connection gets dicey.

I'll look in the wireless G then.

i would suggest you move your router.. The router really should be placed high in order to transmit the signal. Move the router to the highest floor and I bet you get a better signal.

Multiple things that can help, but cost an additonal $50-$100 (on sale.) You have something called a wireless extender, (which does exactly as it says) and you have the larger antennas for the router. Both them will allow a stronger signal to reach the bedroom. Then you have something that use the AC lines and cables instead of wireless. One unit by the router, and the other in the bedroom. To tell you the truth, a concrete drill bit and 100ft of ethernet cable come out cheaper.

Here is an example of an electrical outlet extender. I am using the cabled version and it work fine.

I looked at the links and I am a bit confused about how it works. My router is in the basement b/c that is where my cable modem is and it needs to be attached to it.

so the wireless range extender would be plugged in upstairs (?) and then it will pick up the signal and extend it thru the house? Then I dont have to worry about where my wireless router/antenna currently is located because the extender will help with that?

am I getting this right?

There are two parts on the cabled extenders. One part plug in near the router to the electrical outlet and a cable (ethernet) run to the router. The other part connect to an electrical outlet near the pc upstairs, then the cable (ethernet again) to the pc.

Some of the wireless extenders are a single unit and just retransmit the strongest signal, some are two pieces like the cabled units. Either one of wireless type just as well as the cabled units. Once you get it working without the wireless security turned on, next step is to enable wirless security on both the router and then the pc.

The antenna package usually will list which routers it can work with. It simply screw off from the back of the router.

fi mi router is in de basement aswell, (a wireless G) but wah mi duh was mek a shelf and put it high in the basement, it is about a foot from de ceilng. Mi get de signal all roun de house, in de garage, outside etc.
