I am looking for a place to stay on the Hip Strip in Montego Bay for a couple of nights for my husband and myself. We don't need all Inclusive, just something clean and close to the nightlife in Montego Bay. We want to experience some authentic Jamaican culture. Thanks

Re: Mo Bay Hip Strip
You`re going to have difficulty finding something cheap on that stretch, the gloucestershire is right in the heart of the strip opposite doctors cave, maybe that is something to look at for a couple nights board only.

Most of these are on the strip too,or pretty close by.

Re: Mo Bay Hip Strip
for very basic accomodations, there's Beachview Apartments...about $60-70US per nite...www.marzouca.com
at the other end of the Strip (nearer to the airport) is Toby's....don't book thru Toby's website, though....you can get a room through Expedia for $80-100US....
and just off the Strip, but easy walking distance, is Hotel Gloriana....rooms there run $50-80US....

Mobay doesn't have any authentic Jamaican culture. The all inclusives have killed Montego Bay. It's one big yawn.

wadda you mean "no authentic culture"?!!! wasn't it just the other day that the authentic Rasta village opened their gates? you know the place; it's right over there between Fantasyland and Frontierland
kyldy, Decameron is an all inclusive...check my reply to your other question....RDMB might not be neccesary

Re: Mo Bay Hip Strip
Royal is OK. I have heard some good reviews on it. It has very good location, right in the middle of everything.
It isn't that fancy, but I have heard its nice. It is an older hotel, don't know if that matters to you.7/5th of all people do not understand fractions.

Correction...the hip strip is a typical tourist trap with little to no cultural experience. But MoBay is a major cultural hub for people living in the surrounding parishes.7/5th of all people do not understand fractions.

Re: Mo Bay Hip Strip
Hey Seveen~
Fletcher's Beach is now called Aqua Sol. Long time it hasn't been Fletcher's Beach. Used to be nice and quiet, $20J to enter, now it's this.
Aqua Sol Beach
Just up the road and a little hill, not hard to walk, is a place I used to always stay in Mo Bay. I like the owners and the people who work there. It offers an easy laid back Jamaican experience which a lot of the hotels in Mo Bay don't offer. It is not far past Gloriana's. Also has a great view.
Palmview Villas
And if you want to eat some good local box food, there is a craft market down by Cornwall beach, behind a strip mall, on the road side. You can get some GREAT local food there at local prices, $200 J - $300 J a meal.
