Correction...the hip strip is a typical tourist trap with little to no cultural experience. But MoBay is a major cultural hub for people living in the surrounding parishes. </div></div>

That can be said about any of the &quot;tourist&quot; areas...I am speaking of the area around M'Ville etc.

If any of us would get OFF the beaten path we would find &quot;it&quot;, but what are the chances a poster who starts off a topic the way this one did will actually DO that??? LOL

Seveen Seveen Seveen....you and your Montego Bay....OK name me a Jamaican owned club there, you know somewhat on the par of my Jus Cheers.....go head....IN Montego Bay now, don't tell me about the one 1 hour drive OUTSIDE Montego Bay....go head...

Name me some place that is NOT a M'Ville or Brewery or Peir 1. See I remember one I think it was Platinum or some metal or diamonds (it's fgone now, I heard two versions. One was the AI's keep their folks locked up at night and they had no business and had to close, the other was that there was so much trouble in the club that they were made to close ) or something like that...then Vi talked about some nice jazz place she found by accident. That is what I call real local flavor, not those tourist trap joints.

Cornwall beach used to be funky, but then they closed it down...........it's been derelict, as far as I know, for years now.
What a waste.

Buccaneer bar down on Dead End beach is the only fun place to hang out in my estimation.

And the (Friday) night I went to Pier 1, it felt as if I'd landed in an American college student bar....

Margaritaville is fun for those that like that kind of thing. It's not my cuppa tea.

I wonder if the bar remained after the hotel was sold to UWI (I think )...I haven't been down that way in a year or so....

Hey Dave not only is the bar open, but they redid it and it is awesome; beautiful wood and about twice as big as it was. Still have some of the best jerk chicken and soup to be found; and the prices are great. Sunday nites all the locals r there with their speakers, music, dancing in the street and the vendors and games on the water side.

Once again all tourist oriented joints,unless one is willing to actually go into the heart of montegobay itself away from &quot;safe&quot; touristy hangouts then you wont find the genuine mobay.

I`m not suggesting anyone should go off the beaten track,but you definitely wont find authenticity in any tourist areas.

Platinum did close a few years ago, an American friend of mine who lives in Jamaica owned it. The jazz place that is on the hip strip is The Blue Note, I've never been, but I've seen it on TVJ, looks nice but too stoosh for my taste. The best dance / party place that I loved was The Keg, across from the fire station, it had the nicest oldies dance in Mo Bay. It was on a roof top and the vibes were always great, every Wednesday night for many years. That closed down last year. There used to be PJ's and Walter's, both had good local music, not a dance club, but nice same way. Both of them have have changed hands and now offer something different. Not sure what, a couple of years ago Walter's was a strip club. Before Cornwall Beach closed it had nice music on Monday nights. A few of those artistes came to Negril to perform. There was also Thursday nights at Dead End, they closed off the street and it was one big party all the way down. That done too now.

Marilyn Sunday nites is the best; dancing in the street, tons of people; great vibe. Also on Tuesday nites in a little bar downtown, they play nothing but oldies and dancing til the sun comes up. a place that most people would never hear about.
