no - I do not think you are mistaken ~ I understand the same thing.

i love TB and didn't feel isolated - just hungry - but that's another story and it takes place at irie rest - but i want to stay at Jakes, the also have cottages, alex hailey wrote parts of Roots in Treasure Cot - on the Jakes property - there are a couple other cottages too
yep - i want to stay there with my man the next time i fall in love - i love those outdoor beds and the unique rooms
as for price i've seen rooms going for $95 per night during certain times of the year - and that's the advertised price - so i bet if you call direct you can do even better
there are plenty of other properties near Jakes - check the Calabash Literary Festival recommendations for housing
and don't forget to go to Little Ochi, The Pelican, Peter Tosh, Black River
oh and i have never stayed at Jakes but i would
and i love Perry Henzell's novels about Jamaica - most folks know his first one - Cane and Power Game are page turners
If I were going to Treasure beach by myself, Jakes wouldn't be the place.
However, I think it is a very sweet spot for what it offers. It is unique. You cannot get the experience down the road for less or more, what have you.
I can certainly see me there with a special someone if I want to show them the beautiful south coast areas.
It is very accessible to Alligator Pond (Little Ochie), The Manatee Park, Mandeville, Milk River Bath, Lovers leap, Junction, and a whole lot of fun places like Christiana, Spaldings, and Cave Valley to visit during your stay.
But then again, I am no party animal and would rather soak up some nice quiet vibes early morning before hitting the road on a daytime adventure and have a beautiful artistically done environment for my evenings, anytime.
Thanks, ladies, I appreciate all the input. The reason I originally asked was I found a good deal on Expedia (I would never pay Jake's going rate. Well, I might if I could afford it!) But this, deal including airfare from CA and 4 nights at Jakes was around 950.
Mister Mister would come for the weekend and then I would have a couple of days alone and then journey on to Kingston for the rest of my stay.
I am well past my partying days and I love Treasure Beach. I am all for peace and quiet. Spending some time in the water, some in the pool, do some reading, have some good food and imbibe in all the rhum available.
I did find one downside - they do not have TVs. I would not care about that, but I am not certain the Man can live without his CNN.

One reason it stands out so is it really doesn't have much competition in the area. I think it is overpriced, and gimmicky. My main gripe would be who owns it.... sorry ...can't really support or big up that property. I know Seveen stayed there, and she will probably be along to tell you how great it is, but ultimately I look at where my money is going , and that is a nest I prefer not to feather.....call me a socially conscious tourist. I always think beyond my own personal comfort on a given trip.
Where I am staying this next reach, there is a place right next door that could save me 500.00 or so off the whole trip, but my money would be going to Minnesota, not in the pocket of Jamaica. </div></div>
I agree it is over priced. Minnestota? I thought the Henzels were Jamaican? </div></div>You're crossing up my asnwer. When I speak of Minneaoata I am talking about another property
I'm sure these HenZells you speak of are lovely people and no doubt might contribute to the community.....but if you will READ what I said, I am not speaking of management, but the ultimate OWNER of Jakes. YOu guys need to do a little homework. THe people who are there everyday, the smiling faces RUN the place, not OWN the place. Where do the ultimate profits go and into whose pockets. THAT is what I am talking about.
