Plus I'm not a Treasure Beach girl, boring and I don't like black sand. all a matter of personal preference.

Jakes would not be my cup of tea (even if I could affoed it)

I agree. You definately need a car to get there and around. But it does have a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere!

Jake's is lovely, lovely architecture, lay-out, good to go for food, breakfast, dinner, and nice to look at those lovely little houses on the cliffs as you pass by in the boat on the way to Floyd's Pelican Bar. Looking at the prices you can understand why the likes of kate moss et al stay there, I would rather stay at a B&B to help out the locals tho. (Of course the people working at Jake's are local too...)

The great thing about Jake's is that you can offload your bags of kids' stuff - clothes, school supplies etc - at reception and they will make sure it gets distributed to the local needs

There's a special website for Treasure Beach, so I'm sure you can find lots of info.

OMG, I was in Juffure, Roots Village in Gambia, stayed in the Music and Dance School, there is literally nothing else, except the village, no pensions, B&B's, I went with a musician who was teaching there, the last member of the Kunte Kinte family died a few years ago.

how incredible he wrote part of it at Jake's..

Pelican Bar and Peter Tosh mausoleum - up the coast in Belmont - are not to be missed!

Perry Henzel, isn't he the one who wrote "The Harder They Come"? Never read any of his books (never found one to read!)

yes he wrote the harder they come (with another author) i loved all the books . . . take place in jamaica so i enjoy being transported

I love the movie "The Harder They Come". The sound track is one of my all time favorite CD's.

I love that movie too! And it was so great to see Jimmy Cliff in concert a few years ago!

When I'm in Jamaica I always buy a couple of (local) books there, whenever I can find them. The airport departure lounge bookshop has a selection, and if I'm in downtown Mobay I usually check the bookshop there.

There are Henzells and then there are Henzells. The family owns Jake's - not Blackwell. Some of the Henzells do good for the community and some exploit and pillage. The person who runs Jake's is Jason Henzell and he also works for island Outpost - owned by Blackwell. Jason defines himself as a "real estate developer" and is the worst kind of developer. The environmental health of the community is in jeopardy because of people like him. I believe that he exploits his employees at Jakes as well. They work very hard for very little. I would not support such a person.

I am not going to dispute your claims....just wondering who you are, why you posted & what you know that we don't know....(keep in mind, I am a person who doesn't accept ANYTHING unless I have proof)...."word of mouth" means NOTHING to me!....I will reiterate, I'm not in an argumentative stance with you, just would like to have details of your statement, since you have just entered into this community (for what reason?)

I don't blame you for not trusting what I say but most of it is public record. Someone mentioned the Bicknell wall in Great Bay - I believe it was Jason (or his construction company) that built it. I am a former JA. now living in the UK. Lived there many years until this kind of f%^&I&^ got to me. I feel like it will be hard for Jamaica to make any kind of progress because there are too many people who don't understand "common good" - like Jason. I have signed on to this forum because I love JA and want to see what is happening. I hope that doesn't make me suspect.
