Tickets are close to full fare...dyam. Ok I didn't know we could ask for a row to be blocked off (but I know that also depends on how full the flight is).

Thanks Bandanna - he was 9 days late! Happy belated to Imanni (another January baby, like me)

I forgot about the AirJ red eye that lands first thing in the morning...that is something to consider. The good thing about AirJ flights is that the price is usually the same for any day of the week from LAX. I'll check into that.

I was just going to suggest the non stop red eye on AJ the flight only runs on certain days I believe but he would sleep the entire flight and no need to pay for that extra seat.

no one in front of you - so no worries about kicking etc

i just never felt comfortable not having a seat belt for my child [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/helpsmilie.gif[/img] although AJ was the only flight that had a supplemental seat belt to attach to your child

and all car seats do not fit into plane seats either [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif[/img]

plus abu was just too dyam heavy and active to hold on my lap, asleep or awake

Sice you can check seat availability before buying, I'm gonna try and buy the least booked flight outta Cali - from Miami to JA is less than an hour so we might be flying American again. I would def do the separate seat on the leg from Cali to MIA.

Try to keep him awake prior to the flight, and darn near starve
him so you can give him the bottle on the way up for his ears!!

Once his belly is full, pray that he sleeps, then place him in his seat...

not sure if you can actually buy a seat for a baby re. safety issues.

yes, make sure you bring a bottle (and refill) for taking off and landing, cos that's when they usually scream from the pressure in the ears.

first time I travelled with my baby (now 16!) he was 5 months old.(short flight, 1 hour).
I travelled with him when he was 20 months to Jamaica, a 9 hour flight from europe. No empty seat next to me to put him on.
It was a LONG flight............but the only problem I really had was trying to eat/drink with a baby on your lap, gets a bit crowded!!!

I too would recommend the red eye from Cali...just for the shorter distance with traveling with a baby.....wishing you and family all safe travels. Now my next flight to Ja will probably take some obnoxious amount of time like 22 hours.....lol...(long flight from Sweden)

We always brought the car seat with us on the plane and the flight attendants always offered us an empty seat to use for our child. It definitely is convenient to have your lap free, especially on a longer flight. Your child will also more than likely sleep better in a familiar seat, too. Carry a pacifer fe baby so that he can suck, and suck..
If no pacifer..carry a lollipop. Quite a few kids suffer from the ear aches when dem fly, and when u hear dem a cry and a cry, is cause dem ears a hurt dem..poor ting..
Dats the time fe feed dem too, but start before the ears start stinging cus once it starts, dem nay feed..dem a go start the bawling..

Carry earphones, with kids musical tapes. mek sure is tapes dat the kid loves..

Dont forget the toys, but if you can carry noisy toys (new ones dem dont know) cus dat usually grab dem interest fasss...

The red eye flights aren't too bad leaving from here and going to either Miami/ATL, but the flight from those destinations to JA are usually booked. I'm watching our travel dates and checking the seat availability each day - right now things are looking good for us and I may book a row where hubby is in the aisle and I'm at window, and hopefully no idiot will book the middle seat *kissteet*

The seats are so damn narrow, it's hard to maneuver. Hubby is 6'2 so I'm more concerned about him being comfy and holding the baby than myself (I'm barely 5'1). I checked first class but to upgrade, the difference in price would be equal to two more tickets to JA so that is out of the question [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif[/img]
