Well now that the cat's outta the bag, I have to say that your pics of the home and mi yard are gorgeous. I got tears in my eyes, because it wasn't completely painted when I left, so now I can see what's been done since March. And seeing mi Hun, even though it was his back, also brought tears to my eyes. That's my dark chocolate man. I would recognize those shoulders any day.

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">Let me back up a sec and tell you about my new friend Garfield. On my first day in JA, a friend picked me up in the hills. I got directions from the owner of the house to get back to the house once I was dropped off downtown. On the way to town, my driver met up with one of his friends who runs a motorcycle taxi. I’ve never been on a motorcycle before. I got Garfield’s number and told him I’d call him after puttering around town. I walked around, got some groceries and was ready to head back to the house. I called Garfield and he showed up quick, quick. Something that was always funny for me the entire trip was how we seemed to sense each other. Or I guess he’d sense me. I’d call him, wait a little while, walk outside of a place, and he’d be pulling up. One time I was walking down the road, called him, looked up and he’s right across the street. It had me laughing each time. Anyway I had these groceries and was trying to figure out how all this was gonna work. Plus I was scared out of my ever-loving MIND!!

I got on the bike and told him, I’m scared, I’ve never done this before. He told me that it would be ok. I’m not sure if anybody has held onto him so tight. I keep thinking, enjoy it. But I could hardly breathe. It was exciting and scary as all heck!!!! It was cool to be on the back of the bike. The first trip he took me on the way that most tourist go around-passing the neighborhoods and heading up the main road past Scrub-A-Dub. After that we went thru the neighborhoods. My eyes were so open. I was still scared, but my eyes were open. This is what I wanted and why it was hard for me to leave those hills. I didn’t realize how tight I was holding onto Garfield until a couple of people were asking me if he was my man. I asked why-Girl you’re holding on so tight. I went past some workers that I got to know because I would past them everyday and they screamed out-Hold on tight girl. After that, I started to watch what other people were doing when they were riding on the back. I tried that and had to give it up. By the end of the trip I felt ok.

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">Well the reason why I felt ok was one day a friend picked me up when I was leaving Collette’s. He was bragging to me since I reached about his new bike and how I should let him give me a ride. I had already called Garfield and he was on the way to pick me up. My friend was like-cancel the ride and he’d drop me off. I called Garfield, told him I had a ride and that I’d call him later if I went out that night. Now I warned my friend about my fear, and he assured me that-no problems-it would be an easy ride. I’m not sure who it was supposed to be easy for! I had a scream trapped in my throat the entire ride b/c I was afraid if I released it he would throw me off the bike. We are going up the side of this winding road on a mountain at pitch black dark doing break neck speeds. The way he turned corners-it was a blessing that I didn’t pee in my skirt. The entire trip I kept thinking, Garfield doesn’t drive like this, Garfield doesn’t drive that this.!!! When we got to the house, I jumped off the bike while it was still moving. I was too scared to be [censored] aka seriously mad-LOL. I was the next day. I mean my entire life flashed before my eyes.

When I called Garfield the next day, I probably flung myself at him as I gave him a HUGE hug. I told him thanks so much for taking care of me. I explained what happened the night before and at the end we were both laughing. He’s a quiet person and very calming. He was often too fair with me. He was always trying to tell me that he wasn’t going to overcharge me. I started to come up with what I thought he deserved and paid that to him. I appreciated his care and honesty and would highly recommend him to everyone. After that I think I thanked him everyday extra, extra after that scary experience.

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">Well after, Garfield had taken me down to the town a couple of days, I decided that it was my time to walk it myself. It was funny. When I would tell Jamaicans that I walked to the beach from the hills they would look at me with a crazy face and say that’s a long walk. Not really the way I walked it. I wasn’t in any hurry.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Here was my almost daily routine.</span>

Get up at 4 b/c of the dag-gone chickens.
Go back to sleep until 7 when I’d call the Miss before she left for camp.
Go back to sleep until around 9.
Feel like a true Guyanese woman and sweep, mop, and wipe down the entire place. Ohh and dance along to my music and sing as if I have a good voice.(Funny how I always thought my aunties and cousins were such neat freaks b/c it was natural Nah-you better be on your toes if you didn’t want all kinds of visitors in your place.) But for real it made me feel good to take care of the place like that.
Take a nap.
Get back up and shower.
Walk to town or the beach. If I was going to the cliffs-Call Garfield.
If in the cliffs. Walk down. Hit my fave hang out spot the Blue Water. Chill with Randy who is the BEST and a riot and has the best ice cream I’ve EVA tasted. (and if you get the slushy you can go across the street to Chicken Lavish and get a shot of run to top it off right nicely )

Walk to town and take an obscene amount of pics. It rained a lot while I was there. Everyday that I went to the beach it seemed as if I was chasing the sun. Usually I won and did get in a little beach time.

If I was going to the beach, I’d walk all the way from the hills. I’d usually stop in town to get something to drink. I hung out at my old spot NBCC and said Hi to all the ladies. Their first question of course was where is the Princess. Same questions I got at Fatties and Jus Natural. I also got raised eyebrows with the “I’m staying in the hills.” Naw it’s not my MAN’S house. (They’d laugh b/c I read their face right). Most days I’d end up at the Pirate Bar. Nice people who worked there. Their Banana porridge was amaing. I mean <span style="font-weight: bold">D-I-V-I-N-E</span>.
Pick up dinner along the way back. I ate at little local spots most of the trip.

Call Garfield to pick me up. (I could walk down that hill, but not back up.)
Settle in for the night.

I only went out two nights. My B-Day-which is a story and a half and Scrub-A-Dub. That was an insight experience.

Jamaica is the only place that I have ever rode on
the back of a bike. From Negril to Sav! Had a good driver.

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="font-size: 11pt">My Birthday can be described as the best of times and the worst of times. So fitting b/c I was addicted to the Tale of Two Cities in high school.
Anyway the day started off lovely. I’m looking out at my fabulous view. I’m getting all kinds of texts and calls from the States wishing me a happy birthday. Also my third eye was way open this entire trip. I always have my epiphanies and ahh-haa moments when I’m in the Caribbean. This trip it was in overdrive. I made a life plan while there. Stuff just seems to fall in place. I think it happened more so this trip b/c I was moving at my own natural rhythm and listening to the pace of my body. So what, that I often didn’t leave the hills until almost 3:00 in the afternoon. So what, that I came to JA and didn’t sit my butt on the beach all day. I got what I needed and that was what was important.

So I had asked the owner of the house if he could teach me to cook a couple of things. Let take another step back. OK, first I was treated so nicely. When I told my driver that I was staying with a man up in the hills and that his woman was in the States, he was all kinds of worried and upset with me. I told him that I feel people. You know my third eye. I got good vibes from these people, it will be fine. I didn’t know how right I would be. First off. The owner, his friend, and his brother were all in the house at different times. Treated me so nice, nice. Always polite, always looking out, and checking out for me. Nice smiles and words. No problems. I totally felt like I was staying with family. I know I must have said thank you a hundred times b/c I felt so welcomed and at home. I try to be nice to people and it’s nice when the universe reflects that back to you. You gotta show your appreciation. I told the owner how much I appreciated how nice I was being treated, and he sucked his teeth and was like, that’s how it’s supposed to be. Yeah, it is how it’s supposed to be, but often it is not.

<span style="font-size: 11pt"><span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'">On Sunday, my Birthday and Father’s Day, I wanted to eat at my favorite breakfast place-Jus Natural. I called Garfield and he picked me up. We find the place and it’s closed. Oh well we head back down the hill and arrive at my next fav. spot Choices. One the way up I had a group of men yelling at me. Of course, when we head back down to Choices, the men are in the store adjacent to the restaurant. GREATTTTTTT!!! Naw they left me alone for a while. I just turned on my Ipod and vibed to Bob and tried to block out the foolishness. After breakfast I decided to walk back down the hill. I stopped at my spot, the Blue Water. I even made a wonderful post to the boardies about how nice it was to be doing your homework from a computer that is next to the ocean. From Choices I walked all the way down to the Pirate Bar.</span></span>
