Unfortunately I didn't want to do a lot of shopping because soon I will be furnishing a new apartment and I want to take my time and do it, so I did not donate much to the coffers this time, but soon. As usual Alisia made up for my lack of interest, I had to remind her that with the new charter company she will pay $25.00 for 2nd bag, and another $25.00 for overweight bag. Too late the deals were done. She found some really nice items.
Earlier in the day a friend of JaJewel came over with his son a really sweet young man. One of the things I love about Jamaican children is how respectful most of them are, how they can still find joy in the smallest things, how they take the time to smell the roses, play with a string and bottle cap for hours and just take the time to be children. Alisia wanted to go to the beach and after breakfast, and doing a few chores Lil Man took her over and was the perfect escort and companion, she is trying to learn to swim, and he gave her lessons. She said an older man came up trying to add his two cents and Lil Man let him know she was with him and he had this. He was very protective and just a sweetie pie.
While on the beach she checked out the craft market and purchased several carvings and commissioned a carving of the two of us, unfortunately we forgot to pick it up before we left, but BG picked it up for us and JJ has it. We both wear locs and I wanted to get something that depicted this trip for us. Originally I wanted something that said Mother and Daughter/Best Friends, but the carver said that to others it might look like two gay females,my thing was, so what we know who it is, but since it is one that I plan to have on my wall while I am there I guess it's OK. And I always wonder when people say "THEY" who the heck "THEY" are. Oh well JaJewel says the finished product was pretty and that she might post a picture of it for me.

Well later as I said we went to Ochi, and the Scotia ATM across from the craft market ripped me off. I made a withdrawal actually two, it gave me the first money, but not the second withdrawal, it made all the bells and whistles, all the moves, but no money. Whagwan??????????????I immediately called my bank to document the problem and went on back about my business.
We had decided on the Ruins for dinner, now mind you JJ had a lovely meal already planned at home, but noooo since we were in Ochi and it would be so late when we got home why not have dinner out. BAD BAD MISTAKE, it was the worst meal and one of the most unnecessary meals ever. There were six of us at the table and the only ones who enjoyed it were the two swimmers maybe because of the exercise they had had earlier.I loved the expression on the Little one's face when he saw the waterfall inside the restaurant, now that was priceless, and he had never been to Ochi, so the trip was worth it just for that experience. I look forward to spending time with him when we return and by then maybe my Son will allow my Grandson to go with me. I thought about Seveen and ABu, and thought he would really enjoy staying at JaJewels because he would fit right in, and there are children in a family friendly and safe place. And the beach is right across the road, and everyone knows everyone and they pay attention, and look out for the children.
Suffice it to say I will never go back to the Ruins, You know that's a pretty good name for it or Ruined would be better. Damn I should have listened to Seveen or had a V8. Maybe for drinks, and the beautiful waterfall. Actually no, NEVER. Should have gone to Hibiscus, or Curry's, Or my favorite BiBiBips. Oh well next time. And there will be a next time. Lord willing.
I was also informed by a couple of the wait staff, that when you pay your bill with a credit card, please do not put the tip on the invoice. When you do this THEY DO NOT GET THE TIP, THE ESTABLISHMENT KEEPS IT. How Foul can you be. Low wages, dependent on tips and ripped off for money you have earned. Times are hard for everyone but this is no excuse. This alone will make me boycott the place. Okay off my soapbox, but you get my drift.Comment

Duncan's Bay reminds me of Treasure Beach, the same look, but different vibe. I felt more Welcomed in Duncan, a more Friendly vibe. More of a comfort zone. And being in a Friendly yard hanging out with your Hosts and their friends, and just getting to know one another. Watching an endless game or two, or three, of dominoes, good food, enjoying good music as you just sit back and relax and soak in the sights and sounds around you, that is a very good thing. Just laying on the beach or sitting at the bar at the beach gazing out into the ocean, while you contemplate life.I was told once, that sometimes in order to communicate with the living, you got to communicate with the dead I had some decisions to make and being in the two environments I was in opened my mind more to let the thoughts flow freely. Please forgive if I sound a little morbid, but this all comes from my heart.
People who don't have a clue have told me, "you've seen one parish, you've seen them all" not true they may look similar, smell similar, but because I have opened my heart to let it in, they all have a different flavor, a different flow, a different vibe. Sadly Duncan's Bay is a place I would have missed out on had JaJewel not made it her home, and a pity it would have been, because it has a lot to offer, A laid back, people friendly, nurturing place, a good place to go when the World starts getting on your bad side. Wherever You go, there You are but a beautiful environment helps a whole heap.Comment

re the tip: I always leave cash, even here in the states. Less info for our Uncle.
When around the south coast, we frequent a lot of out of the way places where tipping is not the norm and usuallly there's some confusion when you're given change and push cash back across the counter. Makes tipping a pleasure.

Love to hear when adult children can go and share in the serenity and beauty of Jamaica. I dont have a daughter, but a lovely goddaughter and we got a chance for a trip together. That trip seem to have made our bond stronger. Still hoping to get there with both my sons one day and my grandkids.Comment

On Sunday I was contemplating extending my visit for another week, but when I told this to Alisia she gave me a look, that said 'You are a crazy woman, I was just not ready to leave, and in hindsight I realise I should have extended, oh well you got to leave, to return. Soon.
Monday was the wretched last day, but due to the late flight we got a late start so I put off packing till then.JaJewel being the Jewel that she is decided to make our Sunday dinner be our Last lunch, fresh garlic lobster and twice baked potato with cheddar cheese. This woman knows her way around a kitchen, each meal she prepared was a delight. Lets see Ackee and salt fish, with breadfruit, Escoveitch fish, white rice and salad, omelets with cheese, Garlic Lobster. one lesson learned and I learned many, when I am in Duncan at Jamaica Jewel, all meals will come from JJ's kitchen.
3:00 came too soon, and we all know that I hate to say goodbye, but knowing my time to return is 73 days away that made it a little easier. Ciao Lady Cher, Barry G, Style, Little Alex and Madge see you soon my friends.
Why is the ride to the airport for departure always faster than the ride to your destination? Why was I born poor and then made some bad choices so I am still in Babylon, working on the Plantation, Why Me? Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?Comment

In my reflections I learned a few things let me share, and if you have any help a sister out and tell them to me.
1. Never make an Itinerary
2. Never leave your ride at the airport, especially if it is dark and you don't know where you are going.
3. Continue to explore all that Jamaica has to offer and be grateful for the gift.
4. Give something back
5. Stop, pull over and just let the Sun bathe your body till your skin smells just like the sun.
6. Pull over and sit by the Ocean and tank God for the gift of sight, sound, and taste.
7. Definitely Do unto others as you will have them do unto you.
8. Always show Respect
9. Follow your heart and travel down any road to see what's at the end of it, who knows there may be a Jamaican Jewel around the bend.
10. Thank God that Jamaica Miss and JaJewel went to Jamaica and fell in Love with our Beloved.Comment

I have to chime in here & say how much we really did enjoy having you & Alisia stay with us!....it is always such a pleasure when our guests want to interact with us. Sometimes I just long for that nice female reasoning that I don't get too much of here...Orbra definately filled that bill....we got alot of conversation into those 4 days!
The Fri. night at our little get together in our bar & the Sat. night ting at Leroy's were a great introduction into the local flavor of Duncans Bay for Orbra & Alisia.
The trip into Ochie and dining at the Ruins was another thing again!!...we were all hungry
and when I saw lobster bisque on the menu I was sold....had been wanting some for the longest time, so 3 of us ordered it....what we got was 3 small bowls of some watered down brown liquid, with a few small pieces of lobster swimming on the bottom....tasteless and definately NOT a bisque!! 
....I am not a complainer, but I actually went to the chef & told him what I thought of his "bisque"! 
....we were offered NO compensation whatsoever!....I felt so bad because Orbra was so generous to take us out for dinner and it was so OVERPRICED!!!...$14US for a soup???!!! 
I even went so far as to write a restaurant review at Trip Advisor which was not at all complimentary!
As soon as I get the photo of the carving that Orbra ordered I will upload & post it....you will love it, Orbra!...Putty did a really beautiful job on it!....gosh I miss you already!

((Roots)) My Daddy had a saying "Lord willing and the creek don't rise." Nothing could keep me away. Actually I thought about NYE in Duncan's Bay with my Jewel Family, but unfortunately I studied on it too long and some one took my place. What better way to begin a New Phase of my life and a New Year than with people in a place I hold close to my heart. Roots I fall in Love with people and places easily especially people like the the ones I met last week. But the positive thing is that I will be with my Negril Family JaMiss and Ted, and hopefully will spend some time with Seveen and Abu again this year. There is a new little lady in my life I hope to meet her also, and see other old friends. The past 2 NYE I have been in the company of Seveen and Abu and it has become a sort of tradition for me. Actually for the past 10 years, I've bought the New Year in, in Jamaica. Only He can keep me from it.Comment

Orbra, I keep forgetting to give thanks for that "Bubba Mug" that you left for us...that has become our new ice bucket for the bar, and a handy one it is!.....and all that nice food & drinks you left behind was also well appreciated...Alex got the muffin & cookies and I scarfed up that sliced turkey in a few sandwiches...thanks again for everything!

I highly recommend Jamaica Jewel in Duncan's Bay to anyone who has ever wanted to be in the heart of a Jamaican Yard, you may come as a guest, but you leave as Family.Comment
