Repetitive, but this is really awesome!! I love the concept of selling blocks to help build, it gives people something tangible to show the effect of community building. Great for the kids as well, to see the accomplishments (of one of their own)

everyone floods the truck, blocks are coming off every which way lol...names are popping up...it was a long time since I had had the heart to come back to Jamaica, after my friend was brutally robbed from us, it left a very dark place inside me. You just can't fill a void like that, once you see just how horrendous man can be to man, it's tough to comprehend. For a time I found solace in being alone. Drinking. Smoking. Is there good and evil, or is there just what is. Maybe we have to recognize that God, if he is there, is not all powerful or all knowing, maybe some of that is up to us, and if so then SR is a force for good so it must go on. Maybe if there is a God we can help him. It. whatever.

So I am starting to see names of people who would write me about the blocks they picked up and so on, and that was pretty heartening.

Amitabha Sinc. She is gone and that is it. Even if all of them get deaded, it's not like it will change anything. Maybe it will save someone from their future evil. They need to all go back to heaven just the same.

Hopefully I will get a Library for her high school in Green Island, and have it in her name, so people can have a proper memory of her, and not remember her from the papers and such.

Same way thank you for the kind thoughts and respect, and everyone else too.

My man DJ Micro's block...


Micro is one of the US's TOP electronic music DJs, he was one of the founders of Caffeine, a seminal and highly influential nightclub that pretty much broke electronic dance music in the US and also what was to become known as 'alternative' music. One could walk into the club, and have their heart massaged by Public Enemy, followed by Helmet, with the floor going totally ape sh!t. The Caffeine nightclub became a phenomenon- it spawned a clothing line, a DJ Tour, and a Record Label. The Caffeine Tour was booked at Wavs one year, and that is how we got involved in Jamaica.

To this date, SR is the only annual event structure to take place during Spring Break that gives back to the community that makes the business of Spring Break possible.





There are right ways to do this kind of stuff, and very wrong ways. One of the reasons why nobody ever believes you when you bust out a conceptual event like SR is because they have heard it all before, and usually it is just a ploy to angle something for nothing. So the fact that we are actually out in the field and doing what we say we are doing, and documenting it, is pretty significant.

So we start to trod out, we need to back in Negril to begin prep for the show...and the manager is asking about the equipment and sound. Apparently their sound man called the venue and they started getting into it over I don't know what, but a small fire got lit and needed to be extinguished.

Again, I usually have to impress upon people that this is not a money making thing, generally that deflates whatever wind is in their sail...but it can take a few times to sink in, because everyone is used to some kind of angle. Watching all the plays and stratagems come at the thing is always interesting. Bottom line for me is we do a good show, bring attention to the cause, and sell blocks. Anyway, I finally see the technical rider and wish I was someone other than me. Maybe this was for Carnegie Hall? A quick once over with Stephen, the leader of Rootz, and I'm glad to be me again. I can't stress enough how easy these guys were to work with, seeing the program from the ground and being a part of the delivery nailed a few things home.

If we manage this thing right, we should be at the forefront of the JTB/Ruder Finn effort to rebuild spring break in Jamaica.

Many people wax on about ATI/RTI. What they forget is that ATI was conceived based on Spring Break. In fact, in it's hey day, Spring Break DWARFED ATI. Yet the papers lodge report after report about the financial boon of ATI etc etc. Fact is, when Spring Break was in it's prime, it occupied not only the beach hotels, but also the entire West End, and the spillover was dumped into Mobay with busses running out to Negril. That is the kind of economic impact we need to be steering and guiding into social entrepreneurism, efforts like SR.

The night of the show, we dine with Miss Sonia, who puts out a small feast, lol. One of the people eating with us took up a piece of fried chicken, took a bite, then stopped and looked around the table. He goes, &quot;My God. This is the best piece of fried chicken I ever ate. And I'm from Georgia.&quot;

we would have LOVED to have tramped along with you ~ this sort of thing is right up his alley ... (the block delivery thingy to encourage the children in education) - the hard working job is the one for him ~
