Ok acknowledging here that I don't make the laws in Jamaica, can't change them, and can't control them, but I did ask about this so called "license".

It was explained to me that if one goes to the police station, or Kingston even, to get this magical LICENSE, that you would be denied because you must have a shop that is closeable and can lock at night.

Even if you had say a little stand of some sorts, if it is not a proper building, you do not qualify either.

So in another conversation with the "tourist police", this was posed. The tourist policeman says that all the person would have to do (in the case of the fruit lady, but I don't think this would carry over to say the CD selling guy), is to apply for a food handler's license.

Now I'm just interjecting my opinion here, but I am guessing the reason that a beach traveling vendor would not like to get all caught up in the formal licensing process would be that then the GOVERNMENT would have you on record, and begin "taxing" your alleged earnings. If one could not document to their satisfaction what those earnings are, then they would guesstimate (and that is something you don't want any government entity to do with your life, in Jamaica or anywhere in the world), and tax you accordingly. So I really don't blame them for taking the occasional hassle as opposed to the alternative.

Sadly, this now makes the vendors that we like pack their things up and just leave For Real's bar when the 5/0 come by (which is way too often for me).

Of course...the two drug dealers that I know for sure pace up and down the beach unmolested from 6:00 AM- until dark. (I guess they pay some hush money for that privilege though)

I really don't think that it is the "taxing" ting totally....the vendor has to come up with the cash to BUY the license (how much?) and then has to probably pay taxi to travel to Kgn. to get it (I could be wrong)....sometimes all the cost & legwork is just not worth it....only my own humble opinion!

Supposedly this "license" can be obtained at the local POPO station. however, I am also wondering it this particular form of hassles is not meant to result in ...slip me a few hundred J and I will leave you alone.

It is a cranberry margarita or close encounter is what I like to call it. You sure opened a can a worms with the boat captain. How he is still in the area I haven't a clue except it was said he has connections.

Well if you notice he was sitting alone while we were there, and our last day there, he just didn't bother to come out at all and try to work, since no one is using him right now.

As for him being ok...one thing I know about Negril a new scandal will come along and he will be old news.
