I had a not that cold red stripe , and he had oxtail with cook food. His dish looked OK, he said it was good.

After lunch I went back to the hotel and took a nap. The plan for the evening was to meet friends for dinner at the newest hotel in New Kingston...the Spanish Court Hotel.

I had heard a lot about this hotel couldn't wait to see the furnishings and eat at this restaurant that received rave reviews.

The lobby did not dissapoint. I immediately befriended the Concierge to get the details on the hotel. The hotel is the old Spanish Court Mall that has been refurbished to a boutique style hotel.

The interior designer is a Jamaican living in Miami, and all the furnishings were built in Jamiaca by Jamaicans.

The resort is owned by the son of Superclubs hotelier, Issa. Jamaican owned, and the managment is Jamaican as well.

The concierge was kind enough to take us on a tour of the hotel. The lighting on the property is very dim. All of the outdoor photos, and most of the indoor photos are not worth sharing.

I have heard rave reviews of the dining experience at the Spanish Court. The sushi bar has been featured in several articles and I couldn't wait to eat sushi in Jamaica. The dinner was a dissapointment.

I decided to go light because the goat at Moby Dick's was a heavy meal.

I had the red peas soup, which I think was red peas added tocanned vegetable soup. I didn't take a photo because I knew it wasn't going to be good from the moment they placed it in front of me.

Next I had crab cakes. Those were tasty. The chutney on the right side of the plate was quite good. I think it was mango.



Next I had the shrimp tempura roll. I don't know which was worse, the soup or the roll. I dind't know how frequently they sold sushi, so I went with a cooked roll. Oh well.

This was sweet potato crusted snapper. It looked good and he said it was very good. Instead of breading, they used sweet potato (American yam) to crust the fish. It comes with a starch and a vegetable, he had double veg.

Pepper you are a lovely lady and many thanks for this report - traditional music and the BOJ lunch time treat - these are sights we rarely get to see here and it makes me homesick (even though I'm not from Jamaica, but close enough

I really like the way this hotel looks. Wouldn't it be something if Kingston could somehow get a name as a meeting destination for those organizations or companies that might be inclined to choose Miami because it's well known boutique hotels? For something a little different and not too far away, Kingston could fit the bill. I know there's the massive crime issue but any way to broaden the opportunities for employment and commerce in the city is step in the right direction.

But that's one thing I notice about the Hilton brand. They are not very consistent. It's a hit or miss.

Yes, wouldn't that be nice. All those abandoned buildings downtown would fit the bill perfectly. The alternate to Miami.

I think there was a downtown revitalization project, but the financial collapse most likely put that on the shelf. We can only hope that this gets revisited. The airport is ready.
