Nights in Jamaica have taken on a whole new feel

to me....was talking to an ex-fiancé who has lived his entire life in JA , save his time at Berkley n it was straight home, no deviations, once the ink was dry on the parchment

So we were ketching up n dis ketching up was reminiscences ....nuff laughter n shared past moments

AND Dis trip wid me staying in 3 parishes ovah 14days has been a true ketching up of reminiscences fi true... Every parish I stayed in r passed through evoked memories...from the sublime to the ridiculous, but there were always memories....


Driving through MOCHO, pronounced MUCKO, n chuckling at being told to &quot; u come from Mucho&quot; was a serious diss one time a yard. ...at least words were the weapon bak den , even den , di tone in which it was said made it eida a serious insult r just a dismissal of an idea.

Alligator Pond made me think of Rocky Point.....ahhhhh.....peaceful memories...there was a time wen friends would just roam together....some might be involved romantically, but it did not matter the dynamics....from Thursday thrubSunday nite, u just meet up....

Then as a child of a 5 person home wid just 1Y, n attending HS fi 7 years wid ongle Y's, I always had some diehard male frenz..... Always 5+ yrs older who see u as dem ward....I struggled for that word n it came finally....&quot;ward&quot; sums it up so well.... Dem protective of u fi real...if u go show a NorthCoast. (dat is how we yaadies use fi seh fi mean we a go beach pon di odda pawt a di island...u would go Castleton, u would go Baileys, Gunboat, Boston, Dunn'sRiver, separate from Ochie (go figga dat one) but if u
go furda awn , it was just NorthCoast
Anyways, if we go deh fi show n stay ovah, dem encamp u room...a one weh dem no feel get step to... dem wudda call up to a guy u a dance wid n tell him fi mek space show....

But I digress...figive mi but mi a siddung pon mi ocean view cubic square patio feeling some nice breeze n wid some pineapple juice weh taste nice like wat....

We would go Rocky Pt fi dem fi play dominoes...from dem seh RP fi di sattiday it mean a till late nite wid fire a bun fi light so dem can play...an is fish all day...cause dem a go dung early enuff fi ketch di boats a come een....an di usual go to man eena di area a go cook all day

Dat was a long memory but a nice one....cause all di guys mi did hang wid were all 6'ers n it no mean sixers eida....n if u seh u a yaadie n no recognize di weh dat could also sound out to mek anodda word, send mi u primary school teacher mek mi turn u een to har

Nites in Manchester were surreal....was almost like being back up in my hills in St Andrew....di hills, di coolness, di foliage coverage of the house, the verandah,the land wid cultivation spreading around di house n away from di house ....the sounds dat come wid all dat...the ABSCENCE of sounds dat come wid dat

N di bonus was di set-up....another reminder that we do some things differently in each parish ....n at the same time a reminder that all will not stay intact even as it seemingly stays around....just the instance of the setup being on a Friday because the finaral was di sattiday as Sunday burial is now frowned upon a yaad...mi memba up a country wen finaral pon Sunday was bonus social event...n no bodda gwane lik di ress a oonoo born wid social calendar n secretary

Putting powder rung u neck fi show pon a sattiday evening wen u walk bout go no weh up a country, was tantamount to a Versace original...mi no know if mi could explain it really...but u use to see women well powdered.. n who no press dem hair use to mek a puffed up bang a di front n mi no even memba di ress, di way di bang puff up...

But back to di set up...it was not a planned ting but the deceased made his transition at such a time dat I was behooved (yeah man , some peeps a yaad haffi get maximum respek wid how u form u mout wen is even dem dedding u a reffa too....peeps mek some deep trail dat nuff respek n show it at dese times....

N di set up was nice...as soon as mi reach home n so mi a go upload di video....one a di time mi did almosss get eena spirit di way di music sweet me...

But di one move eena di moist soil dat Manchester seem to keep if u live pon any of it's high spots n ha nuff tree n di almoss slip mi boogasse almoss slip mi decide dis was a rock n go dung nite but no foot moves

Bwoy mi tired...don't know if using a styllus is not more tiring

Went up to my childhood....period...wen u grow up in community in what is termed rural St Andrew, in my time was ur childhood...I lived the truism &quot;it takes a village to raise a child&quot;... Have always been proud of being raised country but educated city....ur foundation from country mek u go tru in many a positive way...

Being raised by a village meant at its worst dat u cudden mek a misstep...ah sah..

Going home is never easy has meaning to me....at first I was just going to take pictures from top of the long descending driveway...but then it was a closer picture n i was down in the yard, missing the dwarf coconut tree , closest to the house to be the jelly cokenat true fi Sunday evening wid r widdout visitors...it had migrated on a Gilbert visa program...

The nutmeg tree was gone....my mother's garden still bloomed her plantings but had seen its last pruning n weeding years ago

The plum tree was that much shorter...the Julie mango tree, a supposed anomaly this high up, was now my height....the otaeiti apple tree was there along wid di odda anomaly , the apple tree dat had round apples...the jackfruit tree was gone...the chocho harbour....gone...the lime tree looked shorter...the barbeque was gone...the storage cellar for the dry cokenat looked clautophobic...yet 100s of those nuts had been strored there.....the beginning of the cocoa grove was visible but that was it...seeing thru the brush downhill to more land was impossible...could ongle imagine di river, di almond tree hanging over said river, n the swing that was placed on a branch of said tree to be able to swing out n over said river...the river was the boundary on the right facing down...it meandered around land so it was not a straight boundary...mi big sista sat in dat swing n studied n I did the same come my gorung....dang...talk about a recessed memory.

Cudden see di cane field,corn or red peas field...none of the trees i use to terrorize wen I walked tru wid a knife, nyaming leff n right...rose apple, sweetsop, blackie, half a nose...cudden see across the ridge to the left , over to the levelnon which pineapple was ALWAYS grown....use to walk n eat n replant the head

Den mi hear a one shout mi name n it was anodda time fi reminisce....

Nuff tear shed ..u know how dat can go...freaky the whole tone this visit home took

But it made me finally make the break...I mourn my mother's passing more than I ever say...so much left unsaid in the years away that occasional trips home could never be enuff....n even then I was celebrating my strides into adulthood...there was always going to b time.....in the future.....sigh....

The last thing I did as I crested the hill, was bend n pick up one of the dwindling loose peebles my father had used to pave the driveway, saying it retarded erosion..it was an instinctive move n gesture

So now, wen i reach bak to C, I will have my 3urns n a pebble.....and all representy love of people n a place


I rant n rave about the place but my navel string is buried there...cyan mek it any clearer how I love dis place...
