Re the Cloud Gate (the shiny thingy), I would imagine it is cleaned periodically. Every day would be quite a stretch, considering its size. It really was something to see though...

Still at Navy Pier...at this booth one could rent a bike.



I hadn't seen one of this pedal powered 2-seater 'cars' before. Both persons had to pedal to get it moving, and I thought it was really neat.

[img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] There are still places in Toronto I have yet to visit, so maybe there's a thing with some locals not quite appreciating the sites and sounds in their cities as much as they do those in other places.

Somehow, "The Bean" sounds a lot better than "Cloud Gate".

An interesting bit about the Navy Pier. Found out that during WWII, it was leased to the Americans (the US Navy) for pilot training, among other things. One of the pilots was future president, George H.W. Bush.

The Pier was great but it was time to get back on the DD...



The building with the arched top is The Omni Hotel; guests of the Oprah show stay here.

The building below is so huge, it has its own zip code!



By this time we were on foot, and came across an immigration demonstration involving mostly Hispanics. Chicago's and Illinois' finest were out in full force.







The sun was hot, and this leg of the day was tiring. We grabbed Subway sandwiches and walked it back to the Hilton to recharge the batteries before heading back out again. There was still lots more to see.

Rested and recharged, a couple hours later it was back on the DD...



To walk on Chicago's streets was to take one's life in one's hand. Road courtesy? Non-existent, or so it seemed.



Found out that Wrigley's started out selling flour and gave away gum to customers. It turned out the gum became more popular than the flour, so the company abandoned selling flour and focused on gum. The rest, as they say, is history.



I don't care for cheesecake, so wasn't tempted to check this out.
