Hurricane Ivan did a number on the Island and you can see leftover signs all over the Island, even in the larger, nice homes.



According to the Minister, the homes are still occupied. I don't think I could live without being able to look out my window. I guess they fear another unexpected hurricane.

A former coworker of mine and his wife moved to the Caymans shortly before Ivan. Actually like a week before Ivan hit. I have not heard from him in a while but he did say he was suffering from "island fever". Meaning that in his mind he was struggling with living on such a small piece of land. Not like Canada, where you can get in your car and drive for a day in any direction and see so much land.

So Saturday morning the only thing on my mind was to find a nail shop and get a pedicure. The Minister's daughters and I grabbed a ride from the Minister and headed downtown to get our nails done. While we waited we saw the funniest sight. I laughed so hard that I forgot to record it instead of taking pictures.

This young lady had gotten a manicure and then a pedicure...only thing she was deathly afraid of her feet. As the technician tried to scrub her feet, she would burst out laughing then her laugh would turn into crying. Everyone in the shop was in stitches. I think that was the longest pedicure the technician ever did.

Really weird because she knows I'm booked for a conference there in March (next month).

The same night, the Minister from the Cayman Island came online. I told her I was shopping for a vacation and she said, come to the Cayman Island. I reminded her that I was going to be there in March but that didn't deter her. She told me she was going to be off work and she needed me to be there.

I started to wonder why it was ringing in my ears, why my friend told me I needed to go and why the Minister wanted me there. I have learned not to question God so I settled in my spirit that I would go. I asked for hotel information however the Pastor said, no...I would come to her house. Fine, that settles it...I would go for a week. Nope, plans for made for 12 days...OK fine. Little did I know the trip would last even longer.

Please keep in mind that I didn't do a lot of touristy stuff because God had another purpose for this trip. I am still in need of a vacation. Lord help me.

I hope you'll enjoy the drive by pics I took. I promise to do more touristy stuff when I return in March. </div></div>

Each time I went outside, I forgot about walking with my head held high and kept my eyes planted on the ground for snakes, etc. Luckily I didn't see any snakes until the day before I left. I was taking the garage out and there he was out for his sunbath...well I'm assuming he was a he. I didn't have my camera so no pic. Actually backup...one morning I went for a walk, ended up walking along the beach as well and I did see a dead one. He was harmless. </div></div>

Probably.

Milo, I've only spent 4 days there, but in those 4 days I've seen all there was to see. I would definately get island fever living in Cayman. Plus the fact that it's flat makes it worse. Nothing to catch your eye on.

After leaving the nail shop, we were hungry so the girls decided we would go for jerk chicken...and we had to walk. It was a long walk but enjoyable since I had left behind tons of snow, ice and freezing temps the day before.

Although Jamaica is only a 45 minute plane ride away, I must admit that Cayman Island is not as picturesque but lovely nonetheless.



The girls...they are just like my babygirl. Spends a lot of time in the mornings getting ready.





I mentioned earlier that I didn't get to do much of the touristy stuff. I am looking forward to visiting the turtle farm on my next trip.

They're above sea level, although not by much.
The reason there's no rivers is that it's made up of pourous limestone that absorbs the water. Becuase there's no runoff to contaminate the sea, the island is an excellent spot for diving, since the underwater visibility is very good.

When you go, make sure you spend an afternoon is Rum Point/ Cayman Kai which is nice. What I didn't like about Caymaninas is that most do not like Jamaicans and make it known.

You didn't ask me but since Cayman is my second favorite island:

I missed Rum Point in 2004 but will be heading there Nov 2009!

So very true that many Caymanians don't like Jamaicans and are soooo verbal about it. During Hurrucane Ivan when the looting began, Caymanians were blaming the Jamaicans. All the radio announcements were calling for all Jamaican nationals to report to the airport in some kind of round up.

Sunday morning and it's time to figure out why I needed to go to the Cayman Island in advance of the planned trip.

The Minister and I ready for church. This pic is for those who were wondering where my eyes were.



It was Women's Day so we had to dress in white. Funny enough when I was packaging, I thought about it and decided to bring a white suit...I'm glad I did as I needed it for the last Sunday as well.

It was placed on my heart to preach a message on Joshua chapter 10 that is titled, &quot;A Ridiculos Request?&quot;....note the question mark. I didn't know why I had to until the few days leading up my leaving the Island.

After the service...I was so drained that even my eyes disappeared.
