oh yea, well, I was there MANY moons ago, but get ready to fight off the men when in Maroc.....especially if you are blonde.... and I was even there with a then-boyfriend.....one particularly nasty guy even followed me into the ladies!!!!
luckily I was quick enough to slam the door in his face (AND balls hopefully!!!! )

all of north africa is bad in that respect....not like black africa - bliss!!!

while you're at it, why not fly down to Senegal (Dakar).....??

Further into Africa is going to be another trip (God willing). That one I would do with someone else.

I did read some of the comments on the Morocco tourist site about women travelling to the region. Some had stories like yours and others not too bad. I just think if I can deal with the men in Jamaica then I should be fine And, thank God I am not a blonde

Tangiers would be a short jaunt...maybe 2 days nothing longer. I just want to check out the spice markets.

Good idea! You will love Tangier, I'm sure. Great place! and on the sea, so a nice breeze too.
And I never had a problem there with the men. They've had tourists for ever there (William Boroughs, Barbara Hepworth, Mick Jagger, etc.)so they are a lot more "sophisticated" than more down south.....

The market is amazing, like a rabbit warren. And don't worry about the hustlers, they just wanna make a living, like anyone else. Just smile and say "no ta" (english slang for thanks)...

We stayed in a lovely little pension on the sea front with a lovely landlady. (Anno 2009 they would give it a lick of paint, raise the price x 10 and call it a boutique hotel )........
Haven't a clue about prices in Maroc nowadays.

Also met a maroccan who we smoked hashish with....not recommended!! (police very corrupt).

where they calculate the routes for you. It is safe to drive at night but personally I would not drive alone at night, especially not knowing the language and the route! You never know the odd bods around!</span>

well, she's probably right on about the driving at night part.....but lots of things she wouldn't do that I do!!!!!

I am okay with driving at night alone, as long as the roads I am travelling are are main ones in good condition. And after looking at maps last night I see that many of the main highways between the cities have been upgraded.

It is just like JA. Some parts you are a comfortable with others not so much if you are moving solo.

My comprehension of Spanish is pretty basic at the moment, but I am studying Spanish now so my skills will be better by fall. I dont travel anywhere without having some basic knowledge of the language I am too much of a control freak not to

so much so that I lived there for almost 2 years.
sigh....i miss it so bad sometimes.

dont know what you are into, but Madrid is cool, especially if you are into art.
I lived in Cadiz (a beach town... come on now, give me a break ) and Seville.
Cadiz is a poor town with high unemployment, but really cool people.
Seville is a college/university town.

6 months from now is summer. Understand that Southern Spain heat aint NO JOKE fi real.
Mi kinna get on OK wid summer months, but some of the time the heat even overtook me.
But I learned how to work a hand fan though
Some of the best food on the planet, I've had in Spain. If you can check out the wineries while in the south.

As for Northern Spain, took a few day trips to Barcelona. I didnt care too much for the city. Plus the folks spoke this weird mix of Sprench
Oh and they always talked about succeeding from Spain and forming their own country.

Anyhow...you need one guide? mi services are available for a very nominal fee of....ummm...room inna you luggage. mi promise fi small up miself so mi can fit. </div></div>

My sister lives in Madrid (but spends the summer on the beach in Andalucia... ) and a girlfriend of mine lived 6!! years there, in Frigiliana, another picture postcard andalucian village just off the coast by Nerja.....
