The year I turned 55 I had a really wild first date with someone I had been talking to for quite some time before. We agreed to meet in South Beach at an art deco hotel that I had chosen.
He was tall, dark, handsome, and had the body of an NFL linebacker. Clean cut, employed by one of the nations largest energy providers as a top engineer.....But... (felt it coming didn't you?). The man talked to his clothes ....yep talked to his clothes, talked to himself in the bathroom, and had a hair trigger personality with service providers if he even THOUGHT he was getting poor service.
By the time the vacation was over, I was never happier to see an airport in my life.
So you guys know me, I get it into my head that a place "owes" me something, a happy time following an unhappy one, and I will go back to get what my crazy head thinks it deserves.
In deciding what to do with this first retired and free birthday, my natural choice was Jamaica...BUT I had important business interferring with the timing and I HAD to be back here too soon. I wouldn't be able to do Jamaica justice, so I opted for a quick turn around back to South Beach, same hotel (I adore the beds there), and then back to Memphis.
Driving my decision was this Play, ThE Harder They Come, showing for the last time the night before my birthday. I started planning my little get away around it.
It began at the Memphis airport...the first thing that put this feeling of lonliness into me that I was unable to shake for he whole 3 days.
I saw this couple, napping before the plane arrived, and it seems that everywhere I looked there were couples. So let me start by saying that I felt out of place and odd my entire trip...not a good feeling at all, especially for a celebration.
