I was tired of the cardboard food, so the only place in the US I knew I could get something with some taste...preferably, my favorite....gumbo was to head to Louisiana.
When I went to bed I had it in my head to go to Lafayette, Louisiana, as I had talked to some people there and they said this place called PreJeans had the bomb gumbo. I had never been there, so my travel agent, Seveen and I did a little research and we could come up with not much else to do, so I went to bed considering Lafayette, and New Orleans.
Now I hadn't been to New Orleans in 27 years since my daughter was invitro. I really didn't feel like the "tourist" thing, nor was I ready for post-Katrina stuff, but I woke up and decided....yeah...New Orleans.
I was surprised to learn on the flight there that it is only 54 minutes from Memphis by plane. I had only been there two other times in my life, and both times I went by car (which seems to take forever). But in just 54 minutes I was on the ground, in a cab, and Boom, right in the middle of the French Quarter.
I have to say that I am not at all surprised that Katrina caused so much devastation. Seeing NO from the air, it is perfectly flat and surrounded by water. No wonder it tipped over the edge.
Toward the end of the flight I was snapping away out of the plane window, and the flight attendant came over and said "I need to ask you to put that away. Most people do not think of it as an electronic device, but it is, and you need to shut it off."
Now I wasn't trying to be a "bad passenger", I just never heard of a ban on digital cameras before.
